Im starting a majore rebuild and since its going to be a lot of $$$..

What to you guys think, is it reasonable to use a 1g NT block for that task.

The block is off my first DSM, 90' NT Talon, it is in absolute mint condition - the block and crank too, both are in factory specs, no wear at all.

The motor is being built for 95' 2g AWD Talon - so its going to be 1g to 2g swap also. Im going to run an AGP BB custom spec turbo, HKS cams, Grode-Wiseco combo, titanium springs-valves, aso.

Has anybody had any experience in maching the block for oiljets, and how it lasts in high HP applications?

UPDATE for using a NT block in a turbo engine and machining the oil jet holes...

Its done and looks good oil jets / squirters fit well, IMO...

The tricky part was the using of 1G turbo block to get exact coordinates.

About knock sensor:
Im going to use one of the alternative locations for the knock sensor, at the top of the block.

How it affects the knock count - is yet to be seen....

I did a turbo conversion in the summer. That included a brand new rebuilt non-turbo engine with 1G turbo pistons and HKS 272 cams. I eliminated the balance shafts but did not worry about the oil squirters. I run 17psi, FMIC, good supporting fuel mods and I believe oil squirters are not 'needed.'

I have had no problems to date (besides a dead ECU). In fact, I am using that alternate knock sensor hole. It's already tapped on the non-turbo block. :D

I've had no problems, but my lifters don't tick. My 3G lifter are quiet. I'd suspect if you have stock lifters that tend to tick, you may suffer from a good case of phantom knock.

Hey, thanks

Tought also that it may have issues with knock, since the sensor is moved to a more sensitive location.

I ordered the revised lfters from SBR.

I wanted to use the oil squirters, cause in the long run - I want to push the engine really far and extra cooling might help to reduce the detonation.

As a reference point to other people reading this, a lot of engine builders, including myself, use the NT block becuase it doesn't have piston oil squirters. The oil squirters can clog and cause major oil problems to other parts of the engine. By eliminating the squirters, you have eliminated another possibilty of something potentially going wrong in the engine. While piston squirters are a good idea on stock pistons, if you are using aftermarket forged pistons, there is no need for extra cooling of the pistons, they are built to handle it.
