I just recently bought my 96 gsx. It had already had the catback exhaust installed, and the front inner fenderwells had been cut to increase airflow. Also the salesman, said the owner before me had ported it himself as he was a mechanic. My question though comes from when, i had my boost controller installed with my turbo timer. The mechanic said he was suprized of how much boost my car could with keeping a good A/F ratio. So is there anything i should look for to notice to see if my internals have been swappped . i plan more mods in the future but, if it has had it already done, like to save some money.

There is a good way to tell if a mechanic did a port job on your car. Goto a dyno with the boost set to stock levels. If your car makes less HP then it did stock then you have confirmed that indeed a mechanic did port your head. Get yourself a stock head and replace it or have a proper machine shop fix it if they can. Fixing porting is usually more expensive then a standard port job.
