I am rebuilding a 90 engine right now to put in my 96. A big question for me is whether or not I should go for the forged pistons. The car will be running a Evo III 16g at this point, but later will probably go bigger. The main focus of the car is for autocrossing and going to road racing track days once in a while.
As far as the actual piston choices, since the car will be driven pretty much daily I was looking into forged pistons with a high silicate content. I had heard ross, arias, or wiseco all had decent content.
One of the questions I had was I am concerned about a fast reving engine. Obviously with less reciprocating weight the forged pistons would improve this, but really by how much? I am on somewhat of a budget and the pistons are pricey. Other wise I would be matching 2g pistons with the 90 big rods. Im sure I wouldn't be overdoing them anytime soon with just the power potential of the setup, but like I said I was curious as to how much of an improvment I would really see. To point out the head is going to be lightly ported with a stock valve train.
