I have looked through the obvious choices for front mounts, but i noticed that alot of them go pretty high up in the bumper. I have a 97 front on my 95 tsi, and want to keep it. was gonna buy the greddy 24 FMIC, but more than half of the IC would be covered, making it pointless. is there any where I can get a thinner, but longer FMIC to get full usage out of it, and fill my bumper opening.I thought about using a spearco race core, and making mu own piping, but maybe there is an easier way. if anyone knows anthing or has some ideas, please let me know.

I have the Greddy 24R, look at my sig pic and profile. Not much of my IC is covered up.

I am in the same boat. The 2Gb Talons don't have many option especially if you want to keep the foglights. I am looking into a ATI/Procharger 2 core IC.

The one I am talking about is on the top right. The specs are: up to 500HP, approx dimenstions: 3" x 11" x 18" (I don't know if that is the core or the whole thing though.

You can get that core for $550 without piping. I have to call, but I think you can get that IC with the inlet/outlet on the same side.

That is my exact intercooler (ATI is about 1/2 an hour away). The 2-core side to side actually fits pretty well in the bumper. I just had to do a little trimming to the bottom of the bumper and the cover.

The dimensions given are for the core.

I figured it should be good enough for my 14b as my buddy who is an engineer there used to use it on his Cobra (~450 WHP). Ive had it on since about September and haven't any prblems with cooling. I probably could've kept my fogs, but I never used them and I like the looks of the front better with the wide open smile.

OH REALLY?!

You say side to side as in the opposite side inlet/outlet tank version (in the first pic).

Would you be so kind as to post/send pictures to me.. especially a front shot of the bumper opening?

How did you route the pipes?

Has anybody ever tried bell intercoolers?

http://www.bellintercoolers.com/Pages/assembly.asp

They have any size intercooler with endtanks in any configuration.

I called these guys about a 3.5" x 11" x 24" top to bottom intercooler assembly with 2 1/2" in and out end tanks with an internal baffel for directing air. It was about $675 for the core only. Sounds like a good deal and worth looking into.

All of these FMICs require a radiator upgrade unlike my A'pexi. I pesonally like the GTR FMIC using delta fins. If you dissagree with the radiator upgrade then talk to somne people I know that had mysterious overheating problems in the summer when I could sit in three hours of traffic without the needle moving.

Looks to me that the APEXi isn't the most efficient IC out there but it still alows a high volume of air THROUGH it (for your cooling factor).

If you look at this:

The actual cooling sections are in groups of 2. Inbetween those to are the less dense air to the radiator sections.

Or like me, you just put in a 160 degree thermostat and call it good.

Been through the same thing as you bro.

I bought a Spearco core, 28 x 8 x 3.5 (like a 2-216 just 8 instead of 10 tall). The opening on the front of our cars is 7" so very little is hidden inside the bumper. Then I made up my own intercooler pipes which is easier then you think. Just buy pre-bent J pipes and you'll have what you need. You can buy a upper intercooler pipe so you need only do the two smaller lower sections which is easy.

The lower picture is right after the fmic install, but before the ntercooler like shown above, just incase your gonna ask.

PM me if you have any questions specific to the TSI. I removed my AC fan and only run with one fan now, not a problem. You will have to cut the under side of the bumper so you can put some of the intercooler up there, obviously. The two bolts on my stock bumper support on each side are the tabs (like ears) on the intercooler that I use to hold it there. I used copper pipe as a spacer between the intercooler and the bumper to get just the right spacing.

Hey slow, did you upgrade or add any fans?

Nope, I just put it on and never had a problem. I even run a Grillcraft front grill to protect it from rocks and such. I'll see how well the A'pexi does on my FP3052 though. It should handle up to 400-450hp like I'm aiming for.
