I searched, there's one post about rebuilding a 14b to a 16g for $260, but the post didn't mention where. So does anyone know where I can rebuild my 14b to a 16g for under $300? Thanks.

Having a turbo properly rebuilt should cost more than 300$. You could get a cheap rebuild kit for a temporary fix, but the quality and longevity would be an issue. Companies such as Forced Performance will do it right for 345$ . With the cost of properly rebuilding a turbo at around that price, an extra 150$ would get you a new turbo with better efficiency and design. A small 16G turbo would be a good choice as most run below 500$. It all depends on how much you want to invest in your car and what your finances would dictate, but the best option, even for a stock vehicle, would be something like the small 16G.

Here are a few places to look to get that turbo:

Is the $345 an upgrade to 16G compressor wheel or just a 14B rebuild? If it's an upgrade I'll go with that and save some money. My turbo is dying, so it's time to either rebuild it or just change turbo. I found a 16G for $450, is that good deal?

Thanks for the reply.

A 16G for $450 new is pretty good. Keep in mind that you can always rebuild the turbo yourself. Its pretty straight forward, just make sure to send it to get balanced afterwards. Good luck

You can throw on a 16G compressor wheel onto a 14b. Heres why:

The 16G compressor wheel has a rounded area around the shaft area, while the 14b is flat all the way arcoss. I would think that you would need a center catridge from a 16G to make it work.

I know the difference you're talking about.

But can I use 16G's center plate? It's concave to fit the 16G wheel.

Looks promising. From what I've been told and read its not easy to transform the 14b to a 16G. You will more than likely wind up running into problems and spending the same amount as a 16G but a whole lot more time and frustration.

I should really ask what are you planning to do with your DSM? What boost are you wanting to run at? A 14b is excellent for 15-17psi range, as it is rated to flow 405cfm at 15psi. The 16G would net you a few more ponies and better tuning as it delivers 505cfm at 15psi also. Forced Performance rates the small 16G at 350hp ( crank hp ) which is a good amount for a street car. I actually am a little envious of either the 14b or the 16G because my T25 flow 250cfm at 15psi. :(

345$ Gets you an excellent rebuild on the 14b which is what I would recommend. Another 100$ gets you a good step up in the turbo world. Good luck!

I eventually want to end up with 300whp. I know it takes more than a turbo, but I want a turbo that will flow that much. I'm probably going to get a 16G since the rebuild isn't really that much cheaper. Thanks for the replies.

If you plan on 300whp, go for the FP ( www.forcedperformance.net ) Evo III 16G. Their's have more nickel in the turbine housing and have a redesigned internals for better boost control on internally gated setups. That turbo would be great for your goals and is under 600$. Do an install on it and let us know! :thumb:

Guys, all you need to turn a 14b into a small 16g is the compressor wheel, compressor housing, and compressor wheel backing plate. It's an easy swap and you only need to get the turbo balanced afterwards. Now if your turbo needs a complete rebuild, well, you might as well just buy a small 16g outright.

I took off the ic pipe, there's oil, I will take off my turbo and check it soon. Thanks for the help.
