Ok, I know this sounds ridiculous and stupid but let me explain. About 4 months ago I made the big mistake of buying a used turbo from ebay. It was advertised as a garret T-28 with 1000 miles on it. I won the auction for 400 bucks. I was all excited about it until I got the turbo. It looked exactly like the T-25 from the outside and I started doubting this thing was t28 so I posted pictures of it here to ask for feedback. I don't have the pictures anymore but I was told by some that they weren't sure about it being a t28 and otheres asuring me that it was just a stock t25. I emailed the seller multiple times to inquire about this but never got any response. The things has been in storage for a few months already and I have decided to put it back for sale on ebay. Advertised as a T-25, of course. But, before I do that I want to be absolutely sure I'm selling a T-25 and not a T-28. And the best way to do that is to put it on and see how it performs. I don't want to get screwed twice :( . I might just get lucky with this thing being a T-28 after all.

So my main question is: What will I need for the swap? Gaskets, bolts, hoses, etc. Will I be able to reuse some of those things from the current turbo? Any help and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Miguel

t-25s look like t28s from the outside... because they use the same outsides. You need to visually compare compressor wheels.

Anyways... to do the swap, since everything is the same, you could do it the cheap way, and just resuse the metal gaskets and oil and water lines. So, you really dont need anything new.

Just unbolt the old one, swap all the lines, bolt on the new old one.

Thanks for replying. I"m going to try to install it in a couple of weeks. In the mean time I think I might just order the gaskets only just to be on the safe side. I don't want to have any oil or exhaust leaks. Again, thanks for your help.

I've no idea which is why I'm just going to put it on and see what happens. If it is in fact a t25, I'll just put both of them for sale on ebay.

did you buy it from ssautochome on ebay?, they pulled the same thing with me and 6 others, so we all contacted them. They claimed not to know about the mistake, but they did refund us the cash

No, I bought it froma an individual who said he had it in his car for 1000 miles and had to sell it because of college. I never heard from him again after sending quite a few emails. I couldn't file a complaint with ebay because to this day I still don't know if it's a t25.

Dude, take the compressor housing off or even just take a picture inside the inlet.

I have my stock T-25 which I know for a fact is a T-25. I will take a picture of it and post it and we'll take a picture of your T-25/28 and we'll compare the blades. If they both look identical then it's a T-25, different then we'll talk about it.

From what I understand the compressor does look different this is why it makes more power. I have a funny feeling that you got jacket tho.

I'm 90% sure I got screwed. But I don't want to put it for sale on ebay not being 100% sure of it being a t25. I would post pictures but I had to let a friend of mine borrow the camera for a few days. Besides, I already posted pictures a while back and people were still not sure. If the compressor blades are different between the 28 and 25, then taking the turbo off my car and comparing it to the one I got on ebay will let me know whether I got screwed or not. I probably did but we'll see. Besides, later this year I will get a bigger turbo and taking off the t2slow at this time will be kind of a learning experience for me so that later I'll know what to expect in regards to the installation process.

Measure the wheels or just look at how much biger the comp inducer and turbine exducer are.

After browsing through my folders in my computer, I found these pictures of the turbo.

Yes a 25... The comp inducer is too small... Easy ID based on how thick of metal on the comp inlet... ID vs OD..... Its just too thick to be a 28...

Well now that we know it's a t25, how do I know what the condition of the turbo is? I want to put it back on ebay for sale, as a t25 of course. Is there a way to check whether it needs a rebuild or if it will work just as it is?
