Ok guys you have to be a real DSM guru to know the answer to this. I just put on an apexi N1 exhaust system with N1 downpipe and to my horror i found my o2 sensor right past the cat welded into the previous shitty exhaust. (not my mod) Anyways i had to snip to o2 sensor to get it off and now i need another one. To buy from Mitsubishi its like $125, from discount its like 70 but it might not match up to the wires i snipped. I have also come across a BMW M3 o2 senor for free. It has four wires too but instead of two blacks a white and a blue wire like on the eclipse the BMW has two whites a grey and a black wire. Anybody have any ideas weather i can make this work or should i just start the dive into my pockets for cash.

get an o2 sensor simulator and forget about it.
as long as your talking about the 2nd o2 sensor NOT the downpipe one.

Is there an advantage to the o2 sensor simulators that are available for purchase? Or are they versions of the homemade one (couple of posts prior) that just look nice?

It gets rid of the CEL, but does the car run fine without it? Does it affect the mixture at all?

Sorry if this has been answerred in a nother post - nothing came up with 'o2* sensor simulator' and no answers with '02* sensor eliminator'

It should have no effect on the mixture at all... It just checks for proper cat operation.

I would get a new front o2 sensor and move the old one back. Then do the DIY eliminator circuit using the only one small resistor and capacitor leaving the 2nd o2's heater element in the circuit instead of the big wire wound resistor... You don't need a plug for the exhaust hole. You don't have a resistor trying to disipate 12amps under your console. It's cheaper. Looks more legal.. You also get a new sensor up front where it counts.

i remember doug posting something awhile back about how the 2nd o2 sensor does have a very slight affect on the mixture, something about making the right mixture to make the cat burn optimally
