While I"m here, I was wondering what else I should do while I have my tranny out...Like a balance shaft removal kit or some crap. Any suggestions welcome...but I don't plan on removing my engine.

Thanks!

I got my transmission taken care of...that's why it is out.

I'm not getting a scatter shield, but am replacing the clutch. Should have been more specific...I ment is there anything to do to the engine really...not the tranny.

What does having the tranny out have to do with removing the balance shafts? You can remove them just as easily with the tranny in.

Well, that's the entire reason for this thread...because I don't know and was asking advice/opinions.

TRE spool, magnetic engine oil drain plug, magnetic tranny and xcase drain plugs also.

Why not make your own magnetic plugs? You have 2 choices, drill and tap a #10-32 or #10-24 thread, these are the common sizes on 110v outlets or switches. You use these because they are non magnetic. You can buy ceramic magnets with a hole or drill your own for the screw. Best if you make a paper gasket, oil proof glue and screw into the hole you taped. Alternate is to use a #14-16 eyelet terminal which you wire crimp to a short section of stainless biciycle brake or derailer cable. The other end is crimped around the selected magnet. Make sure the cable is short enough on aluminum pans so it can't lift up and hit the crank.

Cheers,
GTM

Now is a good time to stiffen the 3 motor mounts that are out of the car. You could get the full buzz with Prothane inserts, or fill them up with WindoWeld, then do the 4th mount after the tranny is back in.

Check your CV joint boots.

Now that's the advice I was looking for :thumb:

Never would have thought of that...
What's windoweld? And what would you say the best way to stiffen them up is? I have to have it all back together by monday, so no real chance on ordering parts that aren't in stock at discount or advanced auto parts.

I first saw the WindowWeld thing at RoadRaceEngineering.com in the tech tips section. It's basically some rubber caulk that fills in the spaces in the motor mounts to make them stiffer, but not as stiff as the full Prothane kit. If you're going to try it you'd better start soon, because it takes some time for all the layers to dry.
