Is a FPR really necessary?? I am rebuilding my car, it will be about 400whp. 255 walbro, 660cc injectors, at about 20lbs boost. Will i need a FPR. I have alot of other mods, but i got an AFC and a data logger. IS the FPR necessary. Thanks
 
My shop said you don't really need one till around 450hp but, you are close enough to that point and they are relativly cheap so you might want to get one.
 
yea you probably won't "need" one but I'd get one anyway ... they are cheap enough. Thats what I did too. I will have about 400+ at the wheels at about 24-25 psi. I have a 255 pump and 660s as well.
 
You will kick yourself if you don't get one. It will be much easier to tune if you are not overrunning the fpr and actually have a linear pressure curve.

Perhaps your shop was thinking about when you might need to raise your fuel pressure to get more out of your injectors but the question is does a 255 walbro need a replacement FPR. In most cases the answer is yes.

Then maybe your not really running fine without one are you?
Unless you have installed a fuel pressure gauge and plotted your fuel pressure against your manifold pressure you can't really say if your FPR is working correctly. The problem with overrunning your FPR is you base pressure is high, your max pressure remains the same and you never really know where your pressure is in between because switching in and out of overrunning the FPR is fuel consumption based which depends more on engine load than any given rpm.

i suggest one. i decided not to get one, and my idle fuel psi with a walbro 255 was 64psi.

the pump just wanted to wash out the rings, get a fpr.
