Ok after I drive a long distance my oil pressure isnt as high at idle as it is when my car has only been on for like 10 mins..I have a greddy oil press gauge so i know its a valid reading, my ? is can I bump my idle speed up a little bit? (if so how do I)...Or will switching to a different oil help.i currently use Castrol syntec blend 10w30 and a mobil 1 oil filter..any help is appreciated..thanks CoreyD

yeah but sometimes it drops as low as 5 psi, like a little under 1/2 a bar..which I don't really think is normal..but if it is then ok...=)

Well that is low even for a 2G. Running thicker oil won't solve the problem though, all your bearing clearances are set for 10w30 oil. If you run thicker oil then intended you can actually damage the engine. It may not get to all parts of the engine.

Where is the sending unit on the oil filter housing, can you take a picture?
What turbo do you have and where is the oil feed from?
What is the idle speed right now?

The greddy sending unit is hooked up to the factory gauge location, factory everything turbo, lines etc.. my idle speed seems to drop a little after driving awhile like down to 800rpm,but for the first say 30 mins is closer to 950rpm..thats why I want to know how to raise the idle speed a little bit because all I have to do is set my foot on the gas pedal and the rpms go back to 950 and the oil press goes back to 12-14 psi..but at that low of rpms the pressure seems to get dangerously low.
thanks CoreyD

Turn that out slowly to raise the idle speed.

If your running 550's and a big fuel pump without any fuel control, like a S-AFC, then that is most likely your problem. You will be running pig rich dude, without any type of fuel control.

Nick... if I'm not mistaken, don't you have to ground out something before you can properly adjust your base idle setting, or am I wrong here? If so, where, and how do you ground it out, to do it properly? Thanks!!

If I remember correctly, you need a scan tool to adjust the idle on a 97-99. Something about it holding the ISC in place while you turn the screw. Without it, turning the BISS does nothing, as the ECU will compensate and keep the idle the same.

That is very true what you are saying, because I just took a look at my chiltons hand book and they say the exact same thing about a scan tool, although I have messed with mine without a scan tool. It's strange though, because in much colder weather such as winter time temps my idle will stay where I set it at, which is about 900 rpms, but when it's pretty warm outside like it has been this summer, the computer does compensate and takes it back to 750 rpms at idle. I don't quite understand why it acts, or does like that because of the colder temps.
