I have a mostly stock 91 AWD. I am in the process of installing new DeJon upper and lower IC pipes. I was installing the TB elbow when I encountered a problem.

There is a black (steel?) brace bolted to the stock elbow. It appears to brace against the cam angle sensor. Is this brace needed? what does it do?

My friend's 2G doesn't have this... so we're both a bit puzzled.

I tried several times to get the brace to cooperate with the new elbow but could not get the one bolt to thread in and tighten. I stopped trying to avoid stripping the threads on the bolt.

Any input will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

That brace prevents your intake manifold from backing off when under boost. You should be alright without one but you want to leave the bigger brace (under the intake manifold). I boosted 25 psi without both and gasket took a crap in 2 weeks. Good uck.

Actually I asked Dave at DeJon Tool. He said the brace is only for lifting the motor for removal and installation. Nothing more.

He said to remove it for safe keeping until I need it to pull the motor out.

25 psi? hehe, that must be a blast.

Thanks.
