I am going to be putting on a evo iii mani. w/ a 14b turbo on my 2g about a week from now. I ordered the flat 7cm gasket from SBR. I am not going to be porting it since it's already bigger. Do i have to put the step ring gasket in it? I dont' want to port the turbo either cuz it's a waste of dinero on a 14b, but it seems there will be such a difference in sizing between the evo iii mani collector and the 14b turbo collector. What do I do????? Use the step ring w/ stock gasket? Or use my 7cm gasket I ordered with no step ring? Let me know guys.:dsm:

if its a waste then why are you going through the hassle of installing the 14b? Anyway, its not a waste dude, port match the turbine inlet and leave the ring out ;)

the 14b has some slight cracking in the exhaust housing, should i port it, i didn't think i should since it had cracks in it.

Pretty much all used turbo housings have some cracks in them, the question is: “How badly is it cracked in the WG area?” to determine if it is worth porting.

If you are going to pay someone $50 to have your 14b ported (going rate for a turbo port job), I would skip it for now. Like you said it is probably not worth it. Just wait until you upgrade to 16G or bigger :). I am sure that the porting would help “some”, but the actual increase would be very small, especially on a 14b.

However, you can have the EVO manifold ported, as you will need to do it later anyway, so this would not be a waste.

You can't use either step ring. The 6cm ring won't fit the manifold and the 7cm ring won't fit the turbo. So just use the 7cm flat gasket.

At that point, why even ruin the 7cm^2 gasket? You can actually use your 6cm^2 gasket if you are not going to port the turbo housing.

BTW, many people are confused about this but:

16G/EVO sized 7cm^2 housing refers to the area inside the turbine. The inlet is actually 6cm

14B sized 6cm^2 housing has 5.5cm inlet.

good point Steve. Thanks for the advice. I saw a sale on DSMPARTS.com for the evo iii manifold and turbo for only 749. I am just going to save up and get that. Sell my 14b to help out and just continue with the old T-2small for now. When i do this, I want to do it right. I wouldn't have the 14b on for that long anyway, so if a evo iii turbo is that much better than a 14b I think i will just stick it out and save up my hard earned money and get it. I will have both ported.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

Leon, I suggested using the larger gasket so that there isn't any chance of burning up the exposed part of a 6cm gasket and possibly ingesting it into the turbine.

I know what you are thinking of, but when I was running my 14b, I was using a massively ported 2G manifold (ported to match 7cm^2 housing) and a 14b housing ported to its natural size. So I had a step and an exposed stock gasket. It seemed OK after a few weeks of driving.

so when i do go through the procedure of installing the manifold, turbo and O2 housing, is there any advice on the subject such as if I should go ahead and bolt it together before i put the manifold to the head, or just install piece by piece? What is the best/fastest/easiest way to do this swap?
