I tried searching but coulding find the answer.

I currently have a RS*R cat back on my 98 GST. It is pretty quiet, just a low rumble, slightly louder than stock. I like the sound right now but I want more flow. I was wondering how much louder is a 2 1/2" O2 eliminator downpipe and 2 1/2" high flow cat compared to just a cat back? Is it very noticable, lower or higher exhaust note, louder at idle, ect.

I am just wondering what to expect.

Thanks in advance

not sure bout the cat....should be a lil louder tho....and well the 02 eliminator downpipe...all i gotta say is that f**ker is loud. Specially if the 02 eliminator is venting to the atmosphere...so i've heard....read up on it...and also check the search option on this thread...i think www.importevolution.com click on the 12 sec, he has a 02 eliminator downpipe. anyway...good luck.

Yea thanks, I am going to get internal dump O2 eliminator though.

Thats what I have and its not as loud as everyone thinks. Turbo quite the exhaust tone very much, so it shouldnt be much louder at all than what you have already. Usually a really opened up (turbo back) exhaust will be pretty quite as long as you have the right muffler design.

Yea, I dont mind it being a little louder than I have now but I definately dont want that raspy honda sound. So it will still be pretty deep exhaust note?

Get a 3" exhaust and you will lose your hearing :) At 70mph, I can't hold on a conversation (even yelling) with a passenger... Forget about the radio too... :) I've got the HKS HiPer 3" catback...

Is this true about not being able to hear your passenger at 70 mph? Have other people experienced this? I was planning on going 3" turbo back O2 eliminator with cat (from rnrracing). I have to drive 40 miles roundtrip to work a couple times a week with my wife in the car (we carpool and alternate cars) on the highway. Is she going to kill me? Right now I have the stock exhaust and NO muffler (fell off during drag racing). She hasn't complained about that. Can you get a "silencer" like the one that comes with the N1 for other mufflers? Opinions?

my 3" exhaust is as quiet as the factory setup.... It has to do with what mufflers you use... and how it's designed.

So basically since I already have a RS*R muffler (a low deep rumble :D), I will still have the same sound with the 2 1/2" downpipe and high flow cat?

Changing the downpipe and cat can change the sound..... may be a little louder and a little "raspy" depending on how the piping was made.

Unless your performance goals are a car in the 11s, a 2.5" exhaust is good enough, and you don't have to worry about it being annoyingly loud. I have a 2.5" O2 eliminator, no cat, and straight-through muffler from RnR and it's not loud at highway speeds. It rumbles some on WOT takeoffs, but I'd think that most wouldn't mind that. If you want super-quiet, get a Lexus.

I don't have any ultra low 1/4 time aspirations. In fact, I mostly do autocross, so quick spool up is a big priority. Spool up will be quicker with a 3" DP over a 2.5" DP, even with a small turbo, correct?

There is nothing wrong with a 3" exhaust... it can be quite, if you have it designed to be

Most people do not design there car's to be quiet anymore.

Ok people, quit telling people to go with 2.5" exhaust. Why not spend the extra pennies and get the 3" and have more power and you wont have to worry about it later on.

Why don't people quit telling people to go with a 3" exhaust if you don't know what their specific goals are? For a lot of people, 2.5" would be "better" for what they're looking for.

And why don't you prove that a 3" system on the same car will yield noticeably more HP and quicker track times than a comparable 2.5?

Exactly, it all depends on what someone plans to do with their car. 2.5" turbo back is just fine for 12.5 and up 1/4 miles times. The only thing the 3" really gains for car running in that bracket are noise.

I am planning on doing a 2.5" o2 Eliminator Downpipe and test pipe, and then a 3" catback on my car so I dont get alot of backpressure which the 2.5" full system "could" give.

If any of you think your exhaust is loud and have never been so curious as to take your car out with an open downpipe. (mine is the 2.5"-3" style eliminates cat also)..Well I wanted to know how loud it was so I just unbolted my exhaust from my downpipe..made them wedge so that my exhaust wouldnt block the dp at all.and OH MY this is sooo loud like you would never expect it to be that loud loud...Try it you will have a new found respect for how quiet your exhaust is..Later Corey

ps- dont be like me and do this at 10pm the neighbors werent very pleased.I love it!

Currently I don't have much of an exhaust at all. After some old lady almost T-boned me I avoided her by swerving into oncoming traffic then again avoiding them and I slammed into th curb. The Downpipe busted right before the flex section. I took off the rear part of my DP so the turbo could spool up faster, since it was just hangin there anyway. I must say, that f*cker is loud. Ever been to a NHRA Pro class Drag event? Thats what my Talons sounds like. And if you want intimindation this is the way to go. But it also will get you a big fine and all the attention from the local police. At high RPMS. I think it sounds awesome. At Idle and POT, it sounds rough and like sh*t. I think you should go with 2.5 exhaust. If you're not aiming for high-11/low-12's. Then a 3" isn't nessary. And no matter how the systems are designed. A 3.0" exhaust system will always be louder then the 2.5" system from the same company.
