When you people at the track or racing some rice boy in the street. how many RPM you people hit in 1st ?

is it true to jump from 1st to 3rd accelerating??

i was racing a jerk and i hit like 5k RPM in my t-25 and when i shift second feel like a lose power or acceleration.

Shifting at 5000rpms is lame. If you shift from 1st to second at 5000 rpms you are going a little over 24mph and that will leave you between 2500 and 3000rpms. Dude, our engines make no power there. Since part of accelerating after a shift is related to boost recovery and boost recovery is related to power you will be left dead in the water, even with a T25. You want to shift at 7000rpms (about 34mph) which will put just under 4000 rpms in second.

Shifting from 1st to 3rd at 5000rpms would be really fu@kin' stupid. It would leave you under 2000rpms.

5k you still got some area left on the tach why don't you use it? at 5k you need to keep that t-25 spooling. you in the military? im in schweinfurt (well in kosovo right now) i gotta 90 tsi awd. know a few other guys in germany with dsm's too.

I launch at 5000-5500 and wait all the way untill 6800-7000 to shift. I tried launching at different rpms and between 5000 and 5500 my car will turn all four half a turn before they bite. I love the look on mustang and camaro owners faces when I hit the sixty foot mark and they are still looking at the tree! Im my car anything under 5000 is a waste because she just fallson her face.

Cause if you launch a 400hp car the first gear its gunna spit out all 4 tires in a second.

So if you have different power levels and really wanna get a good 60 ft time, here is what you probably should do. (With an ACT2600)

-200hp:5000-5200rpm slip out as fast as you push the gas pedal
-250hp:4800-5000rpm slip out as fast as you push the gas pedal
-300hp:4600-4800rpm ride the clutch a little more
-350hp:4500-4800rpm ride it out a little more
-400hp:4200-4500rpm ride it out a little more

This is also depending if you car has good tires, good low response, and a turbo that spools up pretty quick, i.e. TDo5-TDo6 style.

Sorry you have a t-25 too, you'll have to change your driving technique as soon as a bigger turbo goes on. (Which is right about anything I've heard! thats a 2nd gen thing anyways, I don't know :)

I have found that with the ACT2600 you can get better 60' times by letting the clutch bite rather than slipping it. You will also get more life out of it that way as well. Here's my technique for consistant 1.7x's short times. NOTE: if you have a 3 bolt rear don't use this method!!!!

-If you have adjustable shocks set them all to the softest setting.
-Drop the rear tire pressure to about 20-24psi
-bring the rpms up to 5500 slowly so you don't get knock (1G cars)
-Then just get the car to move a little and then drop the clutch

You should come out of the box with all 4 spinning and lots of boost. If you have a small turbo use the clutch for the 1-2 shift at 6500 and flat foot the 2-3 and 3-4 at 7000. If you have a big turbo flat foot them all at 7000. This is where a real tranny helps a lot.

When you get closer to the 1.6 mark or if you are getting front wheel hop your center diff is going to take a beating. When I've slipped the clutch out in the past I was able to get good 60' times but the car would stink of clutch after the run. When I let the clutch bite I got better times and no clutch smell. If you have a stock clutch and your thinking of using this method your going to be sorry if you do. Stock clutchs can't take this. ACT 2600's can and in fact run cooler and last longer because the slipping is where all the trouble is.

That "get the car to move and then drop it" thing is how I was trying to explain it, I didn't mean SLip it. I meant, take up all the slack in the drivetrain by engaging a little, then droping it.
1.7 60 ft's, this must mean you have a 250-300hp car?

Put that torque down to the ground and i'm oooooout.

Looks like we went from what RPM to shift to launching... To answer the original question, I would shift at around 7k - no less than 6800. The car will have no problem making power to that point, and more importantly, you've set yourself up better for the next gear. 1st gear tends to run out quickly so pay close attention... 7k will be there before you know it!

On a car with a T25 -- feather the gas at 5500 at the line, and slip the clutch as fast as you can without bogging the car -- it'll take some practice

As far as shifting, shift at 5500 with a T25 -- that will put you in your powerband again right after the shift.

With a 16g... shift at about 6500..... When you get Cams, you can shift higher. Stock cams lose power at about 6700 in a 2g..... but with a set of webcams even, power pulls hard till 7500 (I keep a stock rev limiter... for now).

BTW... slipping a clutch on a 400hp car? Just curious, but where the hell did you get that idea?!?!??! If you attempt to slip it, your going to spin the clutch so bad that your going to fry it. I launch at 5500 with a "drop" -- spins all 4 through first and second. I rather deal with tire spin then clutch spin ($$$$) or breaking the drivetrain........

I do not know of a single person who can slip a clutch in a 400hp car.... I just don't see how that would be good for anything... even with a ACT 2600.

But I already specified that was not what I was trying to say.

thanks for your enthusiasm though. :|

i have a friend that has a cpu program that you can use to tune your car with. we looked at the best launch method for an awd eclipse and it said the best launch method was to drop the clutch at 5500 rpm's
