Me and a buddy of mine are looking into pulling the TDO5H turbo off a wrecked 1G... for free... and putting it into his 97 GS-T. I brought up a question which we both cant come up with an answer. Which would be better... the T25 thats on there(53k miles) or the TD05H off the wrecked one with 100k+ miles?

instead of paying ~$200 to get it rebuilt... sell it for $75 and spend the $275-$300 on a used low milage 16g

that is a good idea other than the fact that his car is completely stock and without any supporting mods, the 16G wouldnt run to its full potential. haha... i told him to get an MBC and run the piss outta his T25, then have the 14B as a backup, just sittin around.

To many people think there is a certain upgrade path to follow... I mean the mod lists made from all these dsm sites are considering you do not know to much... thus its the safe way to go. If you understand yoru car and how to tune and what to do and what not to do you can run as large of a turbo you want on the stockest of stock cars. Do you think it woudl be better to run more booston the t25 as opposed to putting in a 16g and simply allowing the wastegate actuator to control yoru boost?

Anyhow its pretty good advice conserding what 16g's are selling for used. It still is not a good idea to just crank the boost up simply because you think the t25 is small and it will go before you do any damage to your motor. Beleive me, cranking the boost way up on a stock car regardless of turbo size will have its effects...

yeh...don't turn the boost up on the T25...you would need AT LEAST a fuel pump before you turn it any higher than 15-16psi. And like Candela said, you could just put the 16g on there and not use a boost controller, just use the wastegate actuator and leave it at 11psi...it'll still be faster than the T25

And to answer your original question, low mileage T25 or higher mileage 14b...To me that is not even a question...I would go with the 14b...as long as shaft play is minimal, and I don't see why it wouldn't be.

I still think Candela has a better idea though.

hm yea perhaps i should have him look for the 16G. there was a big 16G w/ ported 1G manifold(painted/powdercoated black too) for like 499 shipped. see thats the thing also that i was worried about in the 14B was shaft play. and we didnt plan on cranking up the boost on the T25 THAT much.... 14 Psi street, maybe 16 Psi track... i dunno never really discussed that with him. thanks for the input guys, im thinking well just gank that free turd and go from there.

The 14b is the perfect match for a mostly stock or bpu only 2G DSM. 1G guys can upgrade to the 16G, but 2G guys are 1 step behind because of the T25, so you can cover alot of ground changing to the 14b. Check out Cucumbers article on dsmtalk.com. Its all there. :)
