I have a 91 gst and need to rebuild my head. I plan to go with a four layer Mitsubishi metal head gasket, HKS 264 272 cams, stainless valves, ARP head studs, and adjustable cam gears. I also plan to do the timing belt job at this time. Where do you think a reputable shop would be to send the head or to take it in my area around the DC area? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Jackson Machine is horribly overpriced. They offer a $6k DSM headpackage...WTF can you POSSIBLE do for $6k?

SBR, well is SBR. After looking at their "porting" pictures, I wouldn't let them touch a head of mine, no matter how easy a basic rebuild is.

There are a few very reputable places, my favorite being Forrester Racing out of Chicago.

I had him do a full race head, and a basic rebuild. Pics:

Couldn't be happier with him as a vendor, his service, his prices, and his turnaround time.

Some of these "porters" look like they have parkinsons.

I'm running a Buschur Stage 3. I have absolutely NO complaints about the build quality of the head. The porting is excellent, as well.

I just picked up my Buschur Stage 3 head yesterday. Visually so far all I can say is :D :D :D

for $1,065.00 you get

JAM~Head Package I comes complete with the following items and services performed: First all parts are cleaned, oil galley plugs are removed, the head is pressure tested for quality, a full set of solid bronze endurance guides are installed, we then perform our flow tested 3 angle valve job, a full set of our own stainless steel race proven performance intake & exhaust valves are hand lapped and height specs are checked and set, the deck is then trued up to ensure proper sealing between the head and block, everything is final washed and assembled using a full set of our upgraded valve springs and premium valve seals. **Option: Add a set of our own custom Titanium Retainers at the same time and we will reduce their price to $149.00, they will give you added RPM's and longer spring life, a must to complete this awesome package. *Core required if you buy one of ours.

Pretty consistent with similar packages by other dsm shops. For a MD local like 91 gst. I would prefer to deal with a local shop that is well know in the dsm community. They also build Sean glazers motor which is good enough for me.

No argument there, But I don't think Id limit the above statement to just head work.

Yeah thanks jdmawd. I think thats who Im gonna go with since they are not to far from me and I can physically take my car there and get the work done. A lot easier then removing the head, sending it out, and waiting to put it back on.

no problem bro let us know how it goes. Throw me a honk if you see me on the road:thumb:

my good friend only shops at diamond star motorsport, he buys everything from them, and the guy he talks to is awesome he says. I can't speak for how good or bad their machine work is, but from what i hear, they have great customer service.

I would like to hear from someone who has a SBR head. I am planning on getting their Stage III 1G head. From what I saw, it looked good to me. Anyone had bad experiences w/ it, or is it just the photos?

What's the deciding factor in the SBR head?

Price, performance, etc?

I know Forrester has DYNO proven to make more power than another "very well known" other DSM headporter. To the tune of 30whp on a 500whp+ setup.

Can't beat his service either.

Most of those guys are still waiting. i hear it takes about 10-15 weeks to get head/motor work out of that place.

Thats not to bad i guess. When did you actually send it to them? As mike 99gsx posted above, buschur is about 2 weeks and i know BJ is about the same.;)

i emailed that Forrester place about building me a head, and never got a responce. We're thinkin we have a bad valve seal. All i need is to get my head back working, i don't need any PERFORMANCE headwork done, i just need it to work as good as stock again. Where is a good place to get this kinda work done at that isn't gunna break my bank?

looks very nice! I always pay attention to how clean the shop is (has never failed me as an indicator of quality work)...

I would like to see pictures of someones SBR head ( before its installed hopefully ). I have been surfing all the vendors on this site and have still come back to the SBR head for price and what is included. The pictures on their site are a little shabby, but that might not be a reflection of what you actually get. I don't really mind waiting for a product, mostly because I don't drive my car all that much ( school and work are walking distances ).

Pictures people, I need pictures!!! :thumb:
