Ok this has been confusing me over the last few days, i thought i would get a second opinion.... im rebuilding my entire bottom end becuase i spun some rod bearings in my block a while back.... i have all the parts now and all i need is the bearing set... i went to mitsu and they told me that there are 5 standard sets of bearings in accordance to the number and color markings on your block and crank..... they told me that you also have the plastic H the crank and bearings to get the correct clearance... that i beleived but the 5 standard sets, where is that coming from...... i called another mitsu dealer and asked them for bearings and they said they only carry and make ONE set. STANDARD SIZE..... just what i needed..... but this whole 5 standard set thing is worryin me.... who is right and who is wrong.... what should i do..... is there only one standard set or 5 liek the other dealer said.... HELP! im confused!

old crankwalk folklore attributed the problem to mismatched cranks and bearings. I think one of the initial fixes was to replace all the crank bearings, using marks on the crank to get the right size. i'll tend to believe that there is probably more than one set of bearings, but not sure if there are five sets though (there just might be).

as far as "plastic H" the bearings to get the right size, do you mean plastigauge??

Is the crank stock (unturned and/or not in need of turning)? if so, then the stock size should be fine. you have to plastigauge them anyway to see if the clearances are correct. if not, you can always return the ones that don't fit correctly and get another set. i would go with the dealer that says there are five sets.

I ran into the same thing when building 2G bottom ends. To avoid the hassle I ordered a set of clevites. Clevite only had one listing. I plastigauged everything and everything checked out perfect. So I dont understand what the Mistu dealer was talking about either. If you can get clevites for your year I would recommend just going that route.
