Blowing off intercooler pipes [Merged 7-8] ic intake

The stock lower intercooler pipe pops off my Big T28 Killer when it starts to boost. Why? Do I need a hard pipe? Well i'm leaking coolant and have to go tighten this bolt down. Please give some advice Im stumped.

Get some T-bolt clamps.

if its blowing off that means the seal isnt good enough. Get some strong T-bolt clamps like TSI92 said, oh and upgrading to hard pipes wouldnt be a bad idea since you prolly shoulda done that before you bought a new turbo anyway

whether you're using a worm or a t-bolt clamp, make sure you tighten it with a ratchet and socket, not just a screwdriver.

Also try some hairspray. Spray some on both ends and clamp it down with a rachet. That won't pop off again, I assure you.

are you serious??? it doesn't do any damage to anything, right?

My LIC piping was poping off at 18psi about once a day under boost. Rob(Black95gsx) told me about the hairspray ,so I tried it on all the connections. None of the connections has poped since. Laugh all you want but it works.

I got a couple new clamp did some swearing and its fine now.
As far as piping I didn't get it cause I'm going to get a FMIC with short route piping. eventually

Make sure there is no oil/coolant coating the inside of the tube.

OK So my damn IC pipes kept blowing off tonight at 20psi while I was workign on tuning my car on my buddies wide band (what a tool, best thing ever for tuning.) It was the 90deg elbow Im using off the turbo to the first IC pipe.. Gonna have to get some crazy T clamps on there or something..

Anybody else have any suggestions to keep the damn pipes holding together...

If you don't have t-bolt clamps on there already than that is your answer. I don't see how it is possible to blow one off, unless it is lubricated and has no bead on the end of the pipe. you could also try giving your pipes more of a bead with either a welder or an exhaust shop can do it by expanding the pipe.

Here's a sweet trick: Clean the pipe, then lightly sand it. Clamp the pipe back on, and drive a few times without hitting a lot of boost. The heat will bond the hose to the pipe, and you'll have trouble blowing it off even if you take the clamp out.

you gotta man-handle the hose clamps, sissy!

i had a problem with it before. i sanded the metal hose and ground up the rubber hose a little bit and it holds just fine (that was the upper pipe on my supra IC). the lower pipe would blow off as soon as i went out of vacuum, so i put a bead of weld on the pipe. not ALL the way around though... there was a 90º span of weld, 90º of nothing, 90º of weld, 90º of nothing. so two beads, not making a full ring. it's hard to get a small bead that the pipe will easily slide over. a crappy bead is actually helpful though because the different sizes along the bead will bite into the pipe a little more.

step 1: get crescent wrench
step 2: clamp it down on end of pipe
step 3: bend outwards
step 4: repeat around pipe

theres your damn bead for $0 and maybe 30 seconds

ive blown off my i/c piping about 20 times. then i did that.

Now thats a great idea. I have a mini mig welder at home but it doesnt use gas so it's not exatly a great welder. It's only for tacking things etc, this would be much easier

same here..those were the days..using a butter knife and hairspray to pull your grips off and to put them back on..except i did it with my gt..bike that is..
