I was just curious if anyone has tried installing one ona 1g or 2g/ If so what kind of results did you get? Just wondering cause I got a chance to get one from the junkyard just wondering if its worth the hassle of taking out my worthless conquest front mnt ? If it isnt worth it I'll just get a griffin core and have a buddy bend and weld me some endtanks. I'm just curious about this mod. Comments, Thoughts appreciated.

I assume your talking about the NPR intercooler. Once you cut it down to size and get some endtanks it works well. I helped a buddy put one on his 91 Tsi. He's got 550s and a 190lph fuel pump with a Dejon intake and a 2.5" turbo-back, ported 2g manifold and O2 housing with a rebuilt 14b. Power gains we noticeable and it ended up looking really clean in the front.

GET IT!
If not to use, you can sell it for a pretty penny.
Search NPR in here and you will find alot.

I didnt know NPR was what it was called but it must be,the thing is huge though,i figured it would have to be modified, I'm leaning away from it just b/c its not a sure thing like a spearco, but i think I might pick it up, only 40 bucks at the junkyard, could be worth it, thanks for thoughts info,if anyone has any pics of this on their car please share. I'm curious on how it looks.....Thanks

it all depends on how thick it is, if its a 5" thick intercooler(ic's that large are common on trucks) then its not going to be any good for a dsm, not only because an IC that thick will not fit inside your front end(unless u want to drive around with no bumper or bumper cover, with the IC sticking out farther then the bumper would have it it were on the car), but because its to thick to get proper airflow on a performance application
if its less then 3" thick then u can cut it down, buy new and tanks and have them welded on, and u will have a decent intercooler, id also check the hight of it, im sure u can cut the hight down just like the legnth, but its not as easy or cheap

my advice would be to find a different intercooler, 1g cars dont have alot of room in the front like 2g cars do, our cars need an IC thats long in legnth and short in hight to fit any type of big IC on, a big ass IC that might fot on a 2g will have no hope of fitting on a 1g, take the greddy big fmic for example, it fits fine with room to spare on a 2g, but there isnt the slightest chance of fitting it on a 1g and it getting proper airflow, unless u mount it so it hangs about 4 inches below the bottom of the bumper

The NPR we picked up was 3" thick and did require a little bit of cutting to the bumper, but nothing major when compared to most FMICs. I don't know if it flows as good as a Spearco, but it was a hell of a lot cheaper and performance gains are great.

yea, a 3" thick one would work after cutting it down in size, but i have seen truck intercoolers that are far thicker then that, just make sure u actually measure before u buy it, dont eyeball it cause if you get it home and it turns out to be 4 1/2 inches thick u will have wasted ur money
jbilladdsm, did the one you got fit hight wise, or did youy have to cut that as well as the legnth?

What do u guys get this intercooler out of??? A isuzu truck?? Wha telse could you use i hear alot of people running the porsche 944 turbo intercoolers tey are front mount!!!

yeah the big one is the one i found, i might get it and cut it down, all the welding and fabrication would be done by my cousin so its all free

The one we found fit height-wise so I guess we got lucky. I didn't realize there were ones that needed the height changed too.

I've heard of people using the one from the Porsche 944 Turbo, but they are 4" thick I believe and heatsoak becomes an issue as soon as you get stuck in traffic. I've done work on a friend's 944T and I wasn't impressed with the design. I eventually replaced his stock FMIC with a custom one he had built.

yea have 5 FMICs 2 NPR Smalls and 1 Big fuso IC and another one . How well do the small NPR ones work im sell those and the big fuso IC i figured id know how wellthey work be fore i sold them. mine the one i intend to put on my car is 12 inches high by 20 inches long its only 2 inches deep though i took it cause i was worried about heat soaking when in traffic. in fact all of them are 2 inches thick. well of cooling seurface at least what will i have to do to fit the NPR small FMICs in they dont see to make enought lenght to go around the radiator.Any help appreciated.

I think he meant overheating because of the fans not being able to pull air efficiently through the IC and the radiator. I currently have the medium NPR on my car and love it. It looks just like an aftermarket IC but cost me about 1/4 of what one would. I just recently posted a tech article on this install with a few pics. As far as I know no one has been able to get this IC to work on a 1G w/o serious modifications so it might be in your better interest to just buy an IC made for your car.
