I'm realizing that building my own motor is probably getting too deep for me, LOL. but I was looking at magnus motorsports and they have some motors. what I wanted to know is is it a new block, or do they work off a core charge type deal, or what. and what comes with the motor anyway? anyone with experience? I'm interseted in getting about 400to the wheels on my FWD tsi... i'm at about 300whp now. dynoed at 275whp @16psi, and I do run 20lbs, so thats what I'm guessing. anyways, where could i buy a race motor ready to be put in, I could use my fuel system, turbo, etc. but walking the crank is on my mind on my current motor w/96,000 miles on it. any suggestions? I have about $5k to spend on the motor. any thoughts?

i went through the same thing, i walked my 95 4 days after i bought it, i m picking up my car from SBR this coming saturday after having them build a stage 2 short block, mild head(some porting with SS valves) and i have around $4500 i think between the two(thats counting install). Mike Huml is a really good guy and does good work. go to www.slowboyracing.com and give him a call too.

Screw all this big expensive motor hype... 400whp is easily obtainable on stock internals which all you probably know. If you have 5K, take about 3K and rebuild a stock big rog/2g piston motor, with a nicely worked head with some cams. Take the other couple thousand and buy yourself some beer for not spending 1k + on something you will not ever use or take advantage of, then put the rest in savings so you can buy yourself beer once a month for a decade or two each time realizing that this beer is actually free and I still had a cool DSM when I was younger....

Or keep the extra 1K in an envelope labeled "Broken Drivetrain Fund". Hmm... I wonder if something just happened to my 400HP car this weekend:D

I like the beer thing...LOL. yeah, I guess a budget racer would prolly be the way to go...i'm gonna see which one i like the best and pick it. as for the advice, I'll call SBR and see what they have to say, and also look into the DIY idea as well...thanks guys.

Would the 2.4L even be a good idea in a FWD? The thought had crossed my mind about doing this too.

Yea it is point and shoot with FWD. A LSD is totally obvious but how crazy would it be on street tires? I just think I would save up and buy an AWD to do this swap. Thats just my opinion.

maybe you should save the extra cash in the envelope labeled "crankwalk emergency fund" instead of the broken drivetrain fund :D ....

I'M gonna make your descision even harder.... www.pro1motorsports.com

Mark is building me a 6 bolt 2.4L as we speak and all I can say is A++++ on the customer service. I did a bunch of searching on dsmtalk for posts he did about the 2.4 and its abilities and he really knows his sh**. I believe his screenname was "crankwalker" for a while. Anyways, his prices are a little more down to earth than Magnus - at least for the earth my wallet lives on. Anyway, check it out - i've run into (on the forums) enough ppl w/ engines he built to make me pretty comfortable getting one from him.

Oh - if I were FWD i'd work on a high rev 2.0 and use the $$ difference between 2.0 and 2.4 to make your tranny shift up where it should be!! But I bet you'd have one hell of a FWD on your hands w/ a 2.4 in thereOMG

I want to know peoples thoughts on putting a 2.4 in a FWD. That would be a fun winter project for me. But isnt there a massive list of parts you need to put a 6 bolt in a 2g?

i think you should skip on the 2.4, the 2.4" is a torque monster and I think you may have trouble with traction. Keep the 2.0 and save that cash for a good LSD and tires...

after looking at pro 1 motorsports they seem like another company i would look very closly into if i ever build a motor...2.4 L stage 3 block, stage 3 head, FP green turbo, trans, fuel system, stand alone....i hope ill have money for it.
