First off, I know that it has been discussed numerous times, but I've never seen the EXACT answer that I was looking for while searching.

EXACTLY what is required to run a GM MAF setup? Obviously you need the sensor ( 3" good for GT-12 from SBR? ) as well as the Translatoor. The blow-thru intake pipe is optional I know, but looks like the best way to go (from DSMparts.com) I am unsure what you need to tune this setup with however... is a PocketLogger sufficient? Or do you need a full blown stand alone? If the pocketlogger is fine, what software and PDA is recommended?

T.I.A.

for blowthough:

maf
maft
new intake/filter
new piping (buy or make - I made mine out of my brode pipe)

that's it

Never seen a setup that included a MAFT w/AFC.

if you are putting it on a stock car right now, the pocketlogger isn't necessary. but if you've got mods or are planning them in the future it is absolutely essential. I've heard of some people who like the AFC using the translator zeroed out and using the AFC to tune. others have had great experience tuning with just the translator.

I would have to say at least the use of a pocketlogger is necessary (see a friend will let you borrow one). People have done several combos:
maft + ...
afc
afr
vpc
dsmlink
ems

those are all of the ones I have heard mentioned on the maft yahoo group. Of those dsmlink and afc seem to work the best with the maft. Mike Licht (maft seller) iterates that all you need to fine tune is the maft and an afpr.

I do just fine with the maft.

On a 1G obviously the DSMlink isn't an option. So I'm assuming using say the SAFC-II in conjunction with the MAFT would be my best option while still running the stock turbo, but when I upgrade to a GT-12 from Slowboy, will that still be enough?

start with one or the other, no need to go spend all of that money on tuning equipment when you are just starting out. Guys have run the maft with some pretty big turbos and injectors (out of the box, it will tune for up to 1250cc/min injectors and mike has made at least one custom one for up to 1600cc/min injectors)

To tune with just the MAFT what gauges should you use? EGT and A/F?

You mean a wideband o2 gauge right?
And is a pocketlogger sufficient?

i dont see EGT and A/F ratio as anything but warning guages, I think to tune by the is far overshadowed by a logger.

exactly :thumb: . they are better than nothing, but definately not nearly as good as a pocketlogger.

And when talk about A/F guage, we're talking about a guage that reads voltage in DIGITAL form (see the #'s) ...none of that blinky light sh!t

But the blinky light sh!t is so pretty :) Dakota Digital makes a good A/F gauge right? Haven't seen many good digital ones lately.

Maybe I'm just being really ignorant, but I don't exactly see how you can tune with the pocketlogger, I know that it allows you to see numerous values and things of that nature. But how would you actually make the changes to improve the values you were seeing? With just the MAFT? AFC?

you use the knowledge of whats going on in your car (through the logger) to alter fuel delivery in order to achieve better performance.

For example... I do a WOT run, see that I get knock, low timing, and a low o2 voltage (take with grain of salt) from 5000 rpm to redline. So I add fuel at the 5000 rpm point with my AFC and eliminate/reduce the amount of knock experienced, thereby increasing timing and creating a better A/F ratio. This equates to more power!

Thanks Keaka, that's what I assumed, but sometimes you never know for sure unless you hear it from someone else.

^^^ So how is the MAFT and SAFC2 working out for you? And where can I get that sweet ashtray?

Works great,Car runs smooth.I am awaiting my datalogger to fine tune it as we speak(I know,i shoulda had it a long time ago).I noticed a big difference (decrease) in spool up time with the MAF Translator also,Wasn't to hard to install either.Just gotta get rid of my Cat,and get a front mount now!:D

P.S. I will be marketing that new ashtray soon to come,LOL.

w0rd, I might have to make some tuning runs from Pendleton through the desert to NM so I can gank that ashtray... make that 2.
