I have a '95 Talon TSI AWD. The motor started knocking and is in very bad condition. Time to get a new one or just sell the car. How much should i be looking to pay for a new one?

Thanks

Well, this depends on how bad of shape your motor is in and what you want to go with in the replacement. You have options ranging from a rebuilt stock motor to going with a full race block and head. From looking at your mods I'm going to assume the basic block and head replacement.

From Slowboy Racing for a 6-bolt:
A stock head rebuild is 599, but if your core is good you get 100 back.
A stage 1 block which is a tiny upgrade past stock is 1899 but you get 300 back with a good core
Total comes to 2498 - 400 for good cores = 2098 + shipping.

Remember this is just an estimate and most shops will be only giving estimates till you actually call them and talk with someone. Mike at Slowboy is AWESOME and answers your questions quickly and in a way that's easy to understand. I say call him and a couple other shops to see how much it will run and how fast they can have it to you.

Yeah I have a stock 95 TSI AWD.

It JUST started knocking and i havent driven it very far at all after that. Basically your saying around $2000 for a rebuild? Probably a little more?

Im in Austin, TX so were looking for some shop around here but im really stumped as to what to do. The cheapest route possible would proabbly be best as i dont have lots of money ready for this.

Put a post up looking for a machine shop in TX that does this kind of work. I remember hearing about a good one down there, but the guys from down that way would help you out more than this yankee can.
