Toronto,
Hello all, I am considering upgrading my intake manifold. I am curious as to how many of you are running an upgraded intake manifold, say, the Magus Intake Manifold, on your daily drivers. I am not building a drag car, or race car, I just want to make my daily driver hella-fast and I would like some input on whether or not it is worth my while. Thanks for you time.

If your car is stock that 500 bucks is much better spent in other places. I have a magnus on my daily drive and i love it. Makes a cool whistling sound when boost comes on very streetable no noticable loss in low end TQ. Then again how much TQ do you really need off boost just to drive around.

On boost is a different story the car pulls like a freight train compared to the stock manifold. Its like 70 70 hit the gas boost comes on then you are at 120:thumb:

has anyone heard anything about the extrude honed intake manifold made by road race engineering? I've had a few thigns extrude hone on my VW and loved the effects it had.

I saw that on Machv.com, it looked like and interesting process, and it maintains the stock appearance. I went to their website, I don't know exactly where to go, or where to send anything though. I don't want to be without my manifold for days on end. Magnus is right up the road from me, so I'd pick it up, and install it the same day. There are a host of other mods to be done before, I just wanted opinions on if it was worth it eventually for a daily driver. Thanks for all the replies so far!!

dont get an extrude honed intake mani, its a waste of money, it usually costs $400 to extrude hone ur intake, meaning u have to take it off and wait for it to get back, and u will only get about 10whp at the most from it, huge waste of money when u can get 40whp out of a magnus for a hundred bucks more
but regardless untill u upgrade ur turbo u have no need for an intake manifold, its just a waste of money that will make u lose a good ammount of low end torque and power on ur stock turbo and fuel system

If you are itemizing a pending setup, then yes the magnus is very streetable. I did not notice much loss of drivability with the magnus intake. people get the misconception that cams intake and large laggy turbo make driving the car on the street undesirable.

During normal driving you really dont need huge amounts of TQ or a super responsive turbo. lag will not make your car feel like Ass untill boost hits. It may just have a honda civic like feel untill boost the turbo spoolsOMG :p

Im also looking at the magnus but would it worth it when I get my FP Big28 with supporting mods? Also this is kinda off topic but what about cams? Like the HKS 264's I think they are. Just curious if it would even be worth it with a fully supported FP Big28. Sorry to hijack the thread.

you dont need cams or an intake with the big t28. if your not making 400 horses you dont need and intake manifold OR cams. they are nice but the stock stuff (1g) will get you there too.

What about those running a stock head, meaning they have to shift at the stock limiting point, 7K... are these aftermarket intake manifolds even worthwhile??

Heres the thing about a turbo car. The cam profile, intake manifold, and turbo all have to match and work in a given rpm band. You dont put a manifold designed to work at 6500 to 8500 with a cam for 5000 to 7500 with a turbo designed for 3000 to 6500. You'll have a poor running motor with really pretty parts. Its all about the parts COMBO.

exactly right, getting a set of cams that shift ur power band to 6000 - 8000, and an intake manifold that will make u lose low end everything isnt any good with a turbo like the big t28 that spoils quick and doesnt make all that much top end power, if u for some reason put a magnus and cams on a car with a stock t25 turbo u would lose low end and get power gain in a top and u can never reach with that turbo, so u really have nothing, it really is all about the right combination of parts and tuning, dont overshoot ur goals with parts more extravagent and drag-specific then u need and u will be faster

It's spelled Y-O-U and Y-O-U-R, not 'u' and 'ur'. You are saving 2 key strokes per word. Are you really that lazy?

Oh and let me introduce you to this thing: '.'. It's called a 'period'. It's used to break up thoughts and fragments into a thing called 'sentences'. A grouping of 'sentences' that follow the same train of thought is called a 'paragraph'. I can send you my 2nd grade English book if you need it.

Please start using proper grammar.
