welding shut the under piston oil spryers - bad or good for preventing crankwalk?

I spun a rod bearing so I am rebuilding my 7bolt.
Soon I will have all my new parts shipped here and it will be the time to get the engine back together.
I will be having new crank, new selected mitsu main and rod bearings, new Eagle rods and new stock bore Wiseco pistons in there.
Balance shafts will be removed.

Still I am unsure if it would be right thing to weld shut the oil spryers or not!?!

anyone with experience on this subject please help me decide!

thanks for space!

The 2G oil squirters are a crankwalk theory, yes, and I think that it is the true one. You should definitely tap and plug them and have 1G squirters installed, although you don't HAVE to have them.

I can't seem to find the website, maybe another member can come up with the link, but I read an article at a fairly reputable site that suggested that the oil squirters on a 7 bolt may cause a lower oil pressure to the crank bearing. That the squirters have a check valve, to keep higher pressure to the bearing, but the valve can become stuck open. They suggested that blocking off the squirters may possibly help get more oil to the block (it was the website where they sliced a few blocks in half).

removing the balance shafts will give you a little more oil pressure. With a full rebuild I would think the oil pressure would be nice and high.

I realize there has been theories with this on reducing crankwalk but in my opinion, i'd much rather be squirting the pistons and keeping them cool(er) than trying to put a slight amount more pressure towards your bearing. Just seems like asking for higher engine temps and possible heat problems.

The higher temps caused by the lack of oil can easily be overcome by thermal coating the tops of your pistons. Also modify your balance shafts so that they are using both bearing surfaces this will increase the life of your oil pump. Also cut the groove in the second bearing balance shaft so that it goes all the way around this will cause the bearing to be truely balanced as well as cut down on some of the "high" oil pressure

ALl these are thoeries there is no way to prevent crankwalk...if it happens it happens..i would just not waste your money on rebuilding your 7 bolt and find a 6 bolt they can be had for god prices everywhere..regardless of what you do the 7 bolt can still crankwalk..

Thanks for your input guys!

I have decided to keep the squirters, I will just replace them with new ones.

I will include here the response I got from Marco Passante from Magnus Motorsports:

Kristo,

you should nitride harden the crank shaft that will help, we found no difference in closing off the squirters, if you want to plug them we just either wled up the holes, or tap and plug the hole. Make sure you have .006" clearance between the pisotn and the cylinder bore. The pistons will be noisy at idle but it will be able to handle the horsepower.

so thats all for now. I will let you guys know how my rebuild turns out :thumb:
