Ok, so I just put an N1 catback and K&N FIPK on my car (no aftermarket boost gauge, I know I know it's on it's way) and removed the honeycombs from my MAF. When I first started it, it sputtered then smoothed out. The idle is a little rough in comparison to stock, but I thought maybe my ECU needed to adjust to the new amount of air the car was sucking in. Anywho... I drove it for approx. 80 miles and then this morning my CEL came on! I checked and made sure everything was still in place, which it was. Then I unplugged the battery for about 5 min. and it went away and hasn't come back. I'm still a little new to all of this, so be easy on me if this is a stupid question. Another thing is that my car seems to be running a little rich. Is this all relatively normal? Help me out my DSM savvy friends...

Do you have some sort of fuel control? If not, my advise to you would be to go ahead and put those honeycombs back in there. DSMs run rich from the fatory. When you take the honeycombs out it leans out the fuel map especially in the lower RPM ranges. Thats why it dies and sputters and acts like an ass when it idles.

also there is a lower 02 sensor right before the cat I believe. If you tookt that off without knowing then that also might have caused the CEL.

Oohhh... that's no good! I threw them away. Now do I need to get myself a new MAF? Any recommendations? And am I putting my engine in jeopardy by driving the car under these conditions?

I ran mine w/o the lower and it ran even better than stock (I used a pocketlogger). Take out the sides though and it won't run for shit
