Chrome rings anyone???

Wow, if that's not rice, I don't know what is. Dude, just buy some normal ones. I doubt those Advanced ones last at all.

who the hell cares what they look like. they could have p3nis's stamped on them for all i care, whos gonna see them?

geez, when is it gonna end?

If you are talking chrome piston rings then just go buy a Honda before you use them. If you are talking chromoly then the work wonders. They are super strong, and light as hell.

If you just need rings to get you from point A to B then why are you worried about some blingin aftermarket rings? Stock will work just fine, unless you found something cheaper, then I'd have to wonder if they'd be as good as stock.

Calling rice huh? You do know he is talking about internal engine pieces right? Of course you did...

And yes to answer the question Chromoly rings are worth it, very strong and only a few bucks more. :thumb:

thank you 4g63t, greathuskie, and slideways for the useful info.

Everyone else, lets think of the logic here. Rings are inside the engine, why would I care what they look like. I'm building an engine so its obvious that i'm not an average dumbass buying all the bling bling parts. Plus, under high heat, such as in a cylinder of a running engine, chrome turns blue, so what would the point be?

well when you ask about "chrome" piston rings and not "chromoly" piston rings... logic will tell you there is a difference :thumb:

You drive a VW and your giving advise on piston rings? Oh god. Go back to VWVortex and talk about your M3 Mirrors and Ottinger grill you just installed. I got rid of my GTI VR6 because of guys like you.:thumb:

LOL, now THAT was some funny shit.

Chrome rings are frequently used on dirt track and off road vehicles. Their surface does not retain small pieces of dirt so they actually help reduce the likelyhood of cylinder wall scratches. You have to run a rougher cylinder wall finish (most likely around 300grit) to allow for adequeate oiling.
You can run a 400grit finish with iron faced rings and even higher with a moly faced ring, some machinists go up to 600grit even.
A regular old ring is more appropriate in your situation.
