I have been looking at the 50 trim t3/t4 setup and I am considering it strongly. I just wanted to know about the whole external wastegate setup. Now it has been asked a hundred times over for a sound clip for us guys that havent heard what an external dump is like. I know its loud a shit, and most say its annoying. My question here is would it be possible to make a muffler or supressor to help out with the sound? I thought I had heard of someone designing a muffler but Im not sure. Any information or links or whatever would be helpful. Thanks:dsm:

It is loud, but only when your in the boost. Else, it's not that loud. I've seen someone hook up a motocycle muffler to the external dump. They then plummed the exhaust out the front bumper, driver side...pretty trick, and it quieted it down a little.

Not sure if this hurts performance. Hope that helps.

Yea I think thats what I saw also. I have no idea about performance loss also. Any one else?

Just because its an external wastegate doesn't mean it's has to be vented externally. You can still have it routed back into the exhaust. It's just a bigger plumbing nightmare that way.

But it sounds SOOOOOO mean :)

I love seeing peoples faces when I pass under boost!

tevenor- I understand that it can be recirculated but if Im going to be running a t3/t4 I want to drop spool up time. I was told that external wastegate dump helps, along with dumping from o2, MAS conversion, stuff like that. I really wish someone could trace down a video or sound clip of external wastegate dump.

It will not change spool up time. Wastegates regulate boost. I'd try to record mine, but I'm breaking in a clutch, so it will be silent for another 500 miles :)

If you get a muffler for the dump tube make sure that the inside of the muffler matches the extrenal's diameter. I bought a motorcycle muffler that had a slightly smaller inside diameter than the 1.5" tial port due to the baffles inside of it (the tube was advertised as 1.5"). On my first hight boost pull the boost spiked to around 28lbs (was set at 18ish at the time). Might want to take it easy on the first run with whatever muffler you might throw on.

Im thinking a resonator will work out best. Just wondering, what diameter pipe should I use, Like 1.25, 1.5? When the time comes for me to have this setup I will play around with it and hopefully find an answer to this situation. Peace

OK I know this thread is 3 years old but I was curious if anyone does have a clip with an external dump with a motorcycle muffler or something similar. I run an open dump out the side of my bumper and was curious what it would sound like with a muffler.
