Hey guys, as you all know, i am in the middle of a jdm engine swap, and last night, i am getting ready to pull the engine out of the automatic car, and i look at the turbo, and the compressor housing says "td05h"

is this possible? why would the 14b be on an automatic car?
i knew both ownerers before me, and i asked them and they said they never did anything to it, so is it possible for a automatic to be special ordered with a 14b?

I am stumped here

Ok, correct me if im wrong. But here I go.

All the turbos for the 1st gen DSM's are TD05H's. The difference that makes them a automatic turbo and one that comes on the manual tranny is the size of the housing i believe (right??). The 14b that comes on the auto tranny has a 6 centimeter housing.

Go here to read a little bit about it......Sorry If I wasnt right or a lil off.

I thought the automatic had tdo4 printed on teh housing

It lookes Identical to the turbo on my gvr4 front clip,
the compressor teeth are the same size and variation, the lines going ot it are all the same on both, and the manifolds are identical,

how could the 14b be on this enigne?

Maybe the previous owner upgraded it? It would be interesting during your tear down to see if you have the automatic cams in there, or if you got a fluke motor and have the 5-speed cams and 14b turbo.

Matt.

it might have blown a turbo in previous life and been replaced with a 14b by satan...unless the previous owner was a tuner as stated above

Ive got an all stock 91 TSI auto. they come with TD04HL, and a 5cm turbine housing. As far as i know, only sticks got the TD05, which all came with 6cm turbine housings.

It has 450CC Blue top injectors too.....
this is really wierd.

mabye, the reason it didnt run right when i got it, is because someone blew the motor, and just swapped it ou, and didnt change the computer?

hmm sob so it is smaller.. I got a turbo off a auto laser a bit back and installed it replaceing the stock one (5 speed) other was auto.. and it's faster than ever... but yet smaller hermm man that other turbo must have realy been worse than i thought...but then i knew it was on it's last leg but damn...

er kinda a bum out though... oh well

what now i read more and you guys say the auto's had the Td04.. yet the one on that auto does look deferent (far as the intake to the compressor) but has TD05H on it... errr oh hell i dont care it's close enough..

:)
LOL,
oh, now i have a backup turbo and injectors, or mabye i could build that turbo into a 16?

or sell the engine, for a little more.

or put it in my moms subaru

on my 91 Talon i got a TD05, not the standard TD04 that comes on automatics. works just fine and made my car faster. and it does say on the housing if u got a TD04 or a TD05.
