i need some help running oil lines to my new SBR-G57. here are the oil feed and return flanges provided by SBR...what do they have in mind when running lines? should i just try to use AN lines? what sizes? is the retun hole in the pan tapped? thanks.

the oil feed definately uses stainless steel. You can get that from rre. The oil return i would say uses heater hose. I have never seen that setup though so dont quote me on it.

The return doesn't have as much pressure on it, but thats' why it's 4 times the size of the feed. Make sure you get hydraulic hose from a fitting supply store. They are designed to flow oil upto 3000psi and will work very well for oil return off your turbo.

Generally heater hose is not to be used for that but can be in a pinch. Hydraulic hose we use is grey (it's different colors for different uses).

bro-ski,

you shouldn't need a flange for the oil feed on a garret center section. it should be threaded for a pipe thread.

you'll need a flange to go on the pan as well as on the turbo for the return.

AMS sells a complete AN kit for a garrett center section install on a 1g. which i'm sure is comparable to the SBR kit. it included both flanges for the return and all plugs and gaskets. the feed is a standard -4 AN from the filter housing. the return is an -8 AN.

only after the kit was installed, i was advised that the return should be a minimum of 1/2 inch to reduce the chances of oil backing up in the turbo and blowing out the seals, since the return is gravity fed. but there have been no problems so far. -8AN is 3/8, -10AN is almost 1/2 inch.

the flange for the pan bolted up using the stock bolts and had an -8 AN fitting welded to it. the turbo return flange was the same as in your pic, but the kit came with a 45* pipe thread to -8 AN adapter. no leaks, awsome fit, (even though the return went on upside down at first), and looks great.

any questions, let me know. i have a pic of the return installed on a motor built by AMS. which is how i found out the return was on upside down. :thumb:

Ben,

I would like to see a picture of the AMS oil return line kit installed. Please post a picture, thanks.

rock on. here is the pic from AMS. i got it from a post concerning the O2 housing, i think, but noticed the config of the return line.

That's a clean looking oil return line setup. So, just to clarify, it bolts up to a 1G oil pan, no cutting or anything required whatsoever? How much does AMS charge for the kit?

it is not a garret center section...it is SBR's custom cast hot side that bolts up to a garret compressor housing and the stock mitsu manifold. the ports are not tapped that is why the flange bolts on. i am going to go get some -4AN line and make a feed line and it looks like SBR intends for you to cut the oil retun tube and get some hose to bolt onto the fitting and tube...

alot of places deal with the return line in that fashion.

the feed that AMS provides looks exactly like the RRE -4 AN feed. with a 45 fitting (the pic shows the complete feed and return) out of the oil filter housing and a 90 into the turbo. i'm not a big fan of making -6 AN lines. my bloody stumps called fingers aren't big fans of it either. but if you want to take on -4AN lines, you are an extremely courageous man.

i think the entire kit was like 180? i honestly don't remember. it came with all the gaskets, plugs, fully assembled lines, flanges, fittings, washers and bolts. very clean and relatively easy to install.

anything else? let me know.

Ben

here's the full pic of that AMS motor.
