well i got my agp kit installed along with a bunch of other stuff and now when i start the car everything is all good...except a radiator/coolent problem....

while at idle, the radiator overflow fills up fairly quickly (i have adjusted the amount of coolent in the car so it doesnt actually overflow out of the container at idle)...once the fan kicks on it starts sucking some of the coolent back into the system..seemed alright, well whenever i drive the car, when i come to a stop and pop the hood (leaving the car running) the overflow is spewing out coolent. then once the i turn off the car, about 30sec later it is all sucked back up into the system.

i tried letting the car idle for about 3-4 minutes with the radiator cap off to make sure there wasnt alot of air in the system? lots of big bubbles were forming and popping out but still have the problem....

after the car is cooled down after driving and i open the radiator cap it looks bone dry in the visual area....the car never overheats or anything like that, the temp stays rock steady at 1/4-1/2 temp.

mods are apg kit (all water lines blocked off)...spal slimline fan (that came with IRC fmic kit)..and all emmisions stuff is removed...there was two vacume lines going to under where the radiator cap is and i just took them off and left the little nipples open? doubt that has anything to do with it but whatever....

sorry for the long post, any ideas? thanx

Radiator cap opening too soon?

It wasn't clear whether your experiment with the bubbles popping out ended with no bubbles. If you keep seeing big bubbles popping out of your coolant, you gotta ask yourself where those big bubbles are coming from. Something must be pumping some kind of gas into your cooling system. I had the same thing, the gas was exhaust, and I had a leaking head gasket. I hope that's not your problem.

thing that I wouyld change is your radiator CAP. See if there any crack in the seal.
My over flow tank will fill up if my temp went over 210 degrees.

I was haveing problem with over heat after the in fo my FMIC and AGP Garrett KIT.
Water temp will go as high as 225 degrees.
Don't trust the stock gauge it never read accurate.

I change my radiator fluid and flush it out. Change the Thermo stat to 180 and 1 bottle of Redline water wetter and a Second Slim fan. Temp hold stead now no matter how long I veave it idle.

yeah i was thinking it might be the radiator cap, the seal looks pretty worn so it would prolly be worth replacing first...

i dont think its a head gasket problem becuase it didnt do this before that i noticed at least (didnt really drive the car much after i bought it before i put all the stuff on)

the bubbles seemed to pretty much go away, ill probably let it run for awhile next time when i start it again, the fluid was starting to get pretty hot so i wanted to put the cap on before it started spilling hot coolent all over the place.

if its a head gasket im not too worried though, ive got a built motor ready to drop in, im just trying to get a couple passes in before the stock clutch goes out (which im expecting to happen on first hard launch)..then goes in the motor, clutch, cams, intake manifold:D

BTW, im gonna start another thread sometime when i have pics, but the agp turbo kit:thumb: fitment was perfect...looks like the damn manifold was made just perfectly to fit a 60-1 (with the big 4" inlet compressor)..no denting of the water pipe at all...and this thing spools up pretty damn quick (.63 a/r)..or maybe im just used to my old supra with a t78(~.96 a/rOMG ) kinda wishing i would have went with a full t4 but oh well...prolly end up swaping in the .84 a/r once i get the motor in (its stroked and bored) should make for a quick spool with decent top end.

2835's...nice!

yeah i was actually pretty suprised at how quick it spools up...i guess some people just dont know how to downshift:D

This is for my 3K VR4

New motor only 8K on it. Built and all that..

NEVER smokes oil or water at startup, cruising, or Hard acceleration

Compression on all 6 are perfect, all within 5psi of eachother and bump up to max compression as they should

All spark plugs come out looking Great always dry. No coolant no oil and nice color.

No oil in Water/No Water in Oil

Starts great, idles great, cruise speed is smooth and 20psi boost runs VERY strong as it should and smooth, still nothing from exhuast

Here is the issue:

If I stay out of boost I can run as long as I want. No troubles. If I boost 15+psi my coolant starts to come out to the overflow bottle then once that gets full it dumps out the dump tube to the ground. It never gets above normal operating temp of 187-200 as seen on the logger and the dash gauge stays put. Until it looses too much coolant ant starts to raise a bit but I shut down and refil at that point.

Again, Only under boost does this happen and even under boost there is NO smoke from exhuast to point to blown head gasket.

Ideas?

Sorry to tell you but is the head gasket. It will only leak under extreme pressure and that's why it charges your cooling system with air making it blow by the reservoir bottle. I just had that problem to, mine got fix with a metal head gasket. There are some discussions about this. Just look under head gasket.

i think mines does this under stock boost..... it better not be the head gasket. My coolent goes somewhere though, maybe I have a small leak(I HOPE!)

Anyone know which are cooling and which are oil passages?

There seems to be a lot of wear around every piston. The black surface material is worn off real bad on both sides.
Here ya go:
Looks failed to me
$46 and a 2 day's labor on my part for both heads and it will be all done

I replaced both headgaskets, both were shot after 8K, warmed up and let cool, retorqued (good thing most were loose) and just pounded on it for 3 hours....

NOT A DROP!

well ive done the whole metal gasket swap, made sure the head and block were level, and it still overflows out the reservoir. and the whole engine was secured down with arp studs. the same thing happened on my buddies ride also and the only fix we could find was to either cancel the overflow or just secure the top of the reservoir so that it doesnt spill coolant on the intake. any other ideas? cuz im out

Sorry to hear...may have a crack in your head.

Update on mine I drove to the 3S NG in St Louis which was 2300 miles roundtrip and treated her like a red headed stepchild...not a drop, she is still 100% toped off....

Earlier today, i was driving my car up to philly and i noticed the temperature gauge rising slowly and it crept all the way up to the red. i popped the hood, and saw that the anti-freeze in the bottle was like bubbling and boiling. and it was gushing out from underneath, from the tube. i was driving it kinda hard, but nothing too dramatic. what could be the problem?

my coolant boiled when my alternator belt broke off... it only took a few minutes to get to boiling after that

i'm gonna take a guess that your water pump should be replaced.. but i'm not sure
