WOW! What a day. It was the 3 Wisemen, all hanging out in Reading. RDRKT, and myself went over to Wes Hess(HighPsi91) house. Got some wideband tuning done on my car. And got a chance to get behind the wheel of RDRKT's Talon. Most know what it has done. Basically a fully built 2.4 liter, sheet metal intake and Garrett 60-1 .82a/r. Set at about 22psi on pump gas, it is by far the most powerfull car I have ever driven. it feels like driving a very well tuned 16G car, with about 150 more HP. The spoolup is incredible. And the torque is amaizing! I was able to easily get the car sideways in 2nd, and 3rd. It wants a much bigger turbo in a serious way. So to those doing the 64, this is the smallest turbo I would put on this engine. Luckily, we were able to blow the tiny 60-1, so now Dave has an excuse to put a bigger turbo on.:thumb:

Yeah here I am being a nice guy tossing my friends the keys to my baby and they bring it back on a trailer  What’s up with that huh guys?

I’m thinking it just might be oil contamination  Something about all the bearing material from the 2 rods that I have spun may have put my turbo to an early death..

We were thinking mid 11s on pump gas on the 60-1 and maybe around 550 on c16. But now I can jump on the new turbo band wagon and get the 56 trim. Something tells me that it will spool within 200rpms of the 60-1 yet make well over 600hp all of this while making 30lbs of boost by about 4300 or so rpms. How cool is that? We will just have to see I guess. I’m thinking with a little luck I can have the turbo on in about 2 weeks.

It was so sweet I got to drive my Talon for about 2 days this time before it broke again. But oh man was it a blast. The go fast crack pipe has its hooks in me bad. Ah yes the joys of trying to make a 10 sec street car :dsm:

Just my thoughts here but if you have 2.4l why keep playing around with those small turbos? Go full T4...a T61 would really let the car haul the mail and they are pretty darn reasonable when compared with some of the other offerings out there.

I hear you man loud and clear. Actually if I wanted to go with a proper turbo I would look even bigger than that like something in the T66 or TO4r range.

The problem right now is cost. I just had a really nice custom true 3 in DP that was built to have my Tial WG mounted to it and have easy access to my wideband 02 sensor and a few other nice things. If I wanted to go T4 right now I would be looking at 550 for the mani, 1200-2000 for the turbo, and then another new custom downpipe. Right now there just isn’t any money in the budget for that. I will get the biggest 56 trim and use my .82 ar exhaust housing and it will still make well over 600 to the wheels with 16g like spool and all of this for about 400-600 bucks. That much HP should hopefully equal 135+ traps. At that level you need a TON more safety equipment to legally run. It becomes a slippery slope VERY quickly.

I hate to break it to you rdrkt but I think the 56 trim will spool FASTER than the 60-1, and make more top end power. But I too would like to see a 66 on that bad boy. ;)

Regards,

You dont have to break good news to me :D You can just tell me. If that is the case then I will be freaking estatic.

I will have this turbo on as soon as I can send my old turbo out to get rebuilt.

Heh. well, a bit more good news then; judging by that compressor map, it will also crush the 60-1 as far as pump gas power too. Quite a more efficient wheel which means higher allowable boost levels.

Regards,

Trust me dude you REALLY dont. Its expensive, its all consuming, and it can test your will to live.

That being said spinning 3rd gear in an awd car with decent wide ass tires is the shizzle.

I am building a 2.4l for my 2G and these are my thoughts:

you people are crazy. :D

I did do the calculations for compressor mapping a T61 and I can say I think it would work very well.

I am sticking to a 60-1 myself tho. I want to keep it fully streetable and not break too much.

Sounds like you finally got the monster done Dave, good to hear. Better bring it to the next Nocimixion meet :D

Dave you are killing me. I am still having to wait on the rods
Is yours a standard rod length 2.4 or a long rod like mine? Anyway, that SC61 is going to be a happy little street beast.

You know what Jeff? I don’t want to hear it from you. Those pistons you have are FREAKING GORGEOUS. When I saw them it made me want to rip the motor apart. I just have a normal boring 64 with Pauter rods with equally normal and boring Ross pistons.

As for your SC61. That thing will spool like it’s a freaking pin wheel. GSX4Life wasn’t kidding when he said it spools like a 16g + 150hp.

My quote for this thread: posts like these are what drive DSM'ers addicted, in debt and in the end crazy;)

yeah, Daves car is loud, and annoying to cruise in. But the sidewise crap is very cool. Its actually really wierd. It not only feels like a rear drive car, with the sidewase, fishtale action. But, it also torque steers like a really high HP front drive. The combo of the 2 make for a very interesting loss of controll. 2 ways you can go for cheaper at this point Dave. 56trim/76trim T350. Or.... T61/Ptrim in your .82.

good to hear that the 64 makes stupid power as im building mine now.wiseco's/std.eagles.quick question that im sure is answered else where, any thoughts on the buschur 580?not sure what trim its but i had that one in mind while buying everything.also, did your block have the oil drain holes in the deck?wondering if i should worry about them or not.thanks.oh and one more real dumb sounding question, how does it idle with big cams.

He wasnt kidding. With a 4g64 just say no to ANY bolt on turbo. As for idle. I think it idles just the same or better as it did with the 2L and the 272s

i was thinking a 64 should idle better with big cams compared to a 63.the br 580 is "bolt on" but its all garrett with a pte ex. housing.anyone want a b16g?itsa varry niceaa.

It might but trying to get the Haltech to idle nice is a PITA so I don’t have a direct comparison.

Its TOO SMALL. How many different languages do we need to say it in? a 7.5cm exhaust housing on a 2.4L block wont work very well. You wont have the top end you are after. In fact I would think it would be a surge monster.

My 60-1 is kind of broken. Did you read that? I will hopefully be sending it off to AGP by the end of the week for a rebuild and upgrade to 56 trim.
