recently i purchased a 95 talon tsi fwd. i have a 93 tsi awd and not too familiar with the 2g fwd. im getting a new turbo for the 95 and having trouble picking one out. i want a low 12 sec car and im looking at the fpbig28 but will that get in the 12's with supporting mods??? or should i go with a big 16g???

fpbig28 has the same compressor casting as the stock T25 but its been modified... so would it flow enough volume for the 12's or how does it compare to a big 16g

Your tires will spin when the turbo hits boost no mater what turbo you get so you mat=y as well get the one that carries you further in the topend.

Since when does a Big28 carry you farther in the topend then a big16g, the main difference I was aware of was spool time and it is NOT unheard of that slower spool time helps a FWD get off the line... right?

from what ive heard the Big28 will spool a little quicker then the Big16G but the Big16G will pull harder up top then the Big28.. otherwise the turbo's are supposed to be pretty evenly matched..

The big28 and the big16G are said to have similar topends. And your telling my that if I slap a 20G on my car I will have less traction problems. Think about what you are telling me, it dosen't make sense:rolleyes: .

It makes perfect sense for an FWD
Your tires spin at low speeds, when you're just starting. With a 20G, when you just start out, you will have less boost, less power, and less spinning of tires because it takes longer for the turbo to spool (assuming you're not using any tricks to pre-spool it). Then once the car gets rolling, and has less chance to spin out, the boost comes on.

Get it?

The turbo is only going to spool a few hundred RPM's later and is going to hit much harder. I dont think that a few hundred RPM's is going to make a difference between spinning and not spinning. I think a good driver can do better with a longer period of boost than with a shorter period of boost(this being at the same psi). If what you are saying worked why wouldn't people make there FWD cars lag more to get traction?

Well, being as I had a Big28, I can tell you that its topend is great. I raced a awd 1G with gams last night and I starting walking him in 4th before we both shut down...I was doing about 120. For a FWD car, you need a bigger turbo than both of them to get into the low 12's. I'm sure that you could hit 12's, just won't be easy. Just look at the fast fwd times and what turbo they are using ...it's usually in the 20G or larger territory..not that it can't be done. Just my 2 cents.
