putting a rebuilt motor into a 98 gsx and on the motor that was pulled out the cam position sensor is on the back of the engine (side w/out pulleys), everyone i have talked to says that the sensor should be on the the side w/the pulleys. of course the engine i got it has the cam position sensor on the side w/the pulleys.

where should this thing be? Did mitsu. put out 2 different styles for this year? Please help!!!

do the 95-96 cams have the ability to switch the cam position sensor from the pulley side to the rear of the engine w/out having to drill and tap the cams?

hello all,

I'm trying to replace my cam position sensor but i cannot locate it. it is probably right under my nose and I'm just missing it. according to the hains manual it is on back left side looking at front of motor but i don't see it. if anyone can tell me or has a picture of where it it would be greatly appreciated.

that helps. my problem is i don't see that on my motor. nor can i find the plug. but that is where i figured it was so i'll keep searching.

No, 1995/95 cam sensors are down at the crankshaft, on the other side of the engine. Only 1997-99 2G's have the cam mounted CAS:

What makes you think you need to replace the sensor? Cam sensor errors are often caused by crankwalk issues. :(

it keeps throwing cam position error code. i bought the car not running. the previous owner blew the timing belt and bent the valves. he replaced the valve train but could never get it to run. i got it to run now but it doesn't want to idle. i can keep it running for about 1min if i keep feathering the throttle on it. but it is running extremely rich almost as if it is not giving the spark and fuel at correct time. did compression test on it (don't remember the number exactly) but i confirmed they were good. changed coolant temp sensor. this is the only thing i haven't replaced so i am hoping it works. If anyone has other idea's let me know. I want this car to run! LOL.

The CPS (crankshaft position sensor) is down at the crankshaft for all 2g motors.

The 2ga (95-96) has their CAS behind the intake cam gear.
