Just installed my boost gauge. My car is stock and my autometer -30 - 30 is reading 10 lbs of boost. Is this Normal? I also have an K@N airfilter i was going to install today but will it raise my boost levels to an unsafe level? What where you guys getting stock boost levels readings in a first gen?
 
10 psi is perfect! You are lucky, after I hooked up my junkyard boost gauge, I found out i was only getting 7.5-8.5 depending on weather conditions. You k&n won't change a thing except a little more air flow, resulting in power...
 
AS he said installing a K&N will be fine the only things that can raise boost pressure are replacing IC pipes and some exhaust parts.

With an upgraded pump, and maybe a fpr, it would probably be safe at about 16psi. The stock turbo isn't to efficient past that...
