I am runnin 17psi on my car and sometimes i get fuel cut and sometimes i dont. i usually get it in 5th gear. My friend is gonna sell me a fuel cut defender for 25 bucks. he bought it for 100 for his wrx. but got a chip and no longer needs it. Just wanna know how it works and is it safe?
ps. i have a holley upgraded fuel pump.:thumb:

You don't want to use that because fuel-cut is the engine telling you:
"You are running too much boost and not enough fuel so I'm going to cut the engine before you blow it up."
 
I thought that it was just thinkin it wasnt getting enough fuel because it thinks it's still using the stock pump.

With the upgraded fuel pump shouldn't that be enough? i was told that it was an electrical thing and doesn't really measure the actual amount of fuel is getting. and just assumes its not gettin enough. or am I totally wrong? LOL :rolleyes:
 
With your mods you don't want to go over 17psi anyway. You can remove fuel-cut for sure but when your motor explodes your going to regret it.
 
fuel cut is a defender in itself...hehe.

but the ecu is stupid, and at wot doesnt take in to account your o2 settings. you can be running bigger injectors with low ass egt's at 17psi, but since theres a shitload of air sucking through that maf it will trip the fuel cut and go '#### no i cant keep the engine from blowing up' even though everything is safe.

just be sure to know what is going on in your engine before you remove fuel cut so you don't kill it.
 
The defencers I have seen lie about the intake air temp, to make the air seem less dense than it really is. This makes the ECU think there is less air coming in, so it takes longer to hit fuel cut. Now you have to worry about being too lean, AND you still might hit fuel cut again, a little farther down the road.
You can make a defencer like this yourself for less than $25. Or better yet, get a modified EPROM for your ECU that will actually remove the fuel cut. Then you dont have to lie to the ECU and worry about running too lean. TMO makes them, someone on Ebay seems to be selling copies of that chip. Also there are other guys making EPROMs for the 1G that might be even cheaper. Look around. But thats a better way to go, than trying to use a defencer.
