i'm still working on (and waiting on parts) for my 95 awd turbo project. in the mean time i've been racing my winter beater 91 eclipse fwd. it has a k&n filter and turboxs boost controler so far along with a 100lb weight reduction. i'm going to the races on saturday and there is a guy there with a grand prix gtp that runs high 13's who i really really want to beat (he is cocky as shit and thinks his car is soooo cooool) what other cheap easy to do mods can i wip up to give me the upper hand in the race? i was thinking of doing a few more weight reductions, cleaning out the intercooler, welding in a test pipe, rewiring the fuel pump, and possibly building an upper intercooler pipe. whould this be enough or should i be thinking bigger?

also, if i run 110 octane race gas, do i need to do anything else to the motor to run larger amounts of boost? someone told me i need to advance my timing? how do i do that (if i need to)?

thanks in advance for all the help!

I didnt see anything up there about exhaust. Gut the cat, just take it off and shove a crow bar or something like that until you can see through it. Try no to breathe in any of that stuff either. Saw the muffler section of the cat-back right after the flange. It wont be loud trust me :D Make upper and lower IC pipes. If your doing that you migh as well make the home depot intake. dont forget porting too. other than that you'll start spending more and more money. oh yeah fuel pump rewire, but i think thats useless. go buy a pump for it. but if you buy a pump for it you might as well go get a 3inch press bent exhaust. and if you got the exhaust you might as well go buy a full garret 60 trim set up

hope that helps. happy boosting

ok we brainstormed on it for a couple of hours and came up with a list:

2g ported exhaust manifold (already have)
run open exhaust right before the cat
upper intercooler piping
2g throttle body elbow
weight reductions
fuel pump rewire
clean intercooler
race gas
bov dump tube removal
mas honey comb removal
mod front bumper for better flow to intercooler

can anyone think of anything else?

block the egr valve, run a straight vac line from the intake to the f.p.r. Take out the front head light and get some smaller wheels if possible. I would try 12-16 lbs if you have the 14b. Lower air pressure in the tires and hope you get some good 60 ft times:thumb:

raced camaro lt1 with $320 fwd winter beater

this has to be the best kill i've ever had!! we went out to the races last night and met up in the meeting parking lot. there were the usual riced out cavaliers and hondas. the only car worth racing was a newer lt1 camaro with k&n / exhaust. i figured i would give him a shot almost positive he would win. i talked to a guy who knew him and he asked the guy if he wanted to race. you should have seen this guy, 100% pure inbreed redneck hillbilly. he was wearing a snowmobile jacket and had a calvin peeing on something on his back window. he asked the guy, "this guy wants to race you with his eclipse" the guy looked over at my rusted out 1rst gen and started laughing. "why would i waste my time and gas!" was his reply. right in front of me! you have to understand that there are no modded dsm's within like 100 miles of where i live (except for me and a few of my freinds) so this guy obviously didn't know better and thought his superior lt1 camaro was the fastest car in the world. i told his freind i had only $320 invested into my car and that included the price of the car. he told me his buddy had pad $14000 for his camaro.

anyways i had to pretty much beg the guy to race me. as i'm pulling upto the start line i heard everyone in the crowd chuckling sneering coments like "this dude is going to get his ass kicked" and "look at that rust bucket" we lined up and launched. i jumped about 3 cars on him off the line (i had a decent launch) he shifted into second and pulled his front bumper to my door. i kept going, shifting as fast as possible watching him right along side me upto 120mph. i kept about 3 bumpers ahead of him the whole way! it was close but i did it. i put on my flashers and pulled back to the start line. as i pulled up no one really said anything, they kind of stared at my rust machine in awe. i was soooo pumped, i totally sent this inbreeding redneck to the cleaners!!! he pulled up to me afterwards and i said "nice race" and he asked what i had done. he said he had raced many eclipses before and creamed them (most likely gs eclispes, not alot of turbos around here) i told him i paid $300 for the car and $20 for my mods and he was without words! it was a sweet race pimping my winter car, i had alot of fun! i think i may hold onto the car to race for now while i'm finishing up my 95 awd t3/t4 project!

his car was a late 90's camaro with mannual transmission, k&n, and some type of dual exhaust.

my car is a rusted 91 eclipse fwd manual transmission, stock 14b turbo, ported out 2nd gen exhaust manifold ($free), cat bypass pipe ($5), fuel pump rewire($4), homemade boost controller ($11), lower mas honey combs removed, modded air box, and cleaned out intercooler. no boost guage, we turned up the boost till we hit fuel cut. i was running straight 110 octane race gas.

it has some pretty decent weight reductions including removing spare tire, jack, rear pannels and seats, any misc brackets, passenger seat, carpet and padding, front steel bumper, fog lights, rear seatbelts, and some more minor reductions.

plans for the beater budjet project include some work with the fuel pump so we don't hit fuel cut and can run some more boost, home built upper intercooler piping ($15), 2nd gen trottle body elbow ($free), maby some exhaust work, and removing some more weight (ac, rear bumper, other misc stuff) i'll be bringing it out to the track soon for fun just to see what times we can pull!
