Doing a at home porting job on my 4G63T head. I have ported the intake side and about to start porting the exhaust side. My question is when I put the exhaust gasket up to mark off the amount I need to port there is about a 1/4 of an inch all the way around, which seems like an awful lot to take off. Does this seem like the normal amount? Is this how much everyone else has taken off when they ported? If I took off that 1/4 inch would I run into any problems?

Ok so do not port to match the gasket? If I dont port to match the gasket how much to take off or should I just knock off imperfections??

Just smooth out the rough casting if you're still using the stock ex. manifold. You don't want the port to flare out just to have it neck back down again in the manifold. That would kill flow.

gasketmatch the intake manifold and intake side, smooth out and polish the exhaust side.
