this sucks

it keeps stalling
there is a nasty nasty ticking, almost like a thumping, inside my car
the rpms go up and down
it drives like shit

i have no money for car payments how am i going to pay to get it fixed? damnit!

hmm.. well if you take a hard left and press the clutch and it stayes down then your screwed for sure. Those sound like the symptoms of crankwalk my friend sorry to hear that.

greathuskie-

Just curious, how many miles on the car? Any possibly walk inducing mods (i.e. ACT 2600). Also, had you been measuring your crankshaft endplay and seen it coming? I'm just wondering if it happened all at once or if you had been slowing getting out of spec for a while.

Sorry about the bad news. You might check out this page:

There's some information on a cheap temporary crankwalk fix. Maybe it will last until you can get some money together. Good luck.

So I guess the car's not gonna make it to the meet this month? ;)

Seriously though, that sucks dude. I've been having clutch pedal pressure problems since my last oil change (repeat after me: I will never, ever allow someone else to change my oil again), and every time I get in the cold car and the clutch doesn't pop right back, I shudder. :p

I'm with jim97gst, I'm curious as to what mods you were running at the time (your mods list is pretty short; that's incredibly crappy if it happened on a basically stock setup). How many miles were you at?

Any idea what you're going to do with it at this point? Quick-fix (ie. new crank sensor and thrust bearing), 6-bolt swap, freshly-built stroker?

I hear ya. I also have crankwalk. Working on putting an Evo motorm in my car. Good luck. L8r

I worry about the same thing... Every once in a while, my clutch sticks down, I shudder to think it might be CW. But it does it while driving straight. I'm hoping its just a problem with the clutch fluid or something

Reason to upgrade...don't let it get you down. Even with the money issue hopefully you find a way to get it running and get your car payment made.

Hey I feel for you man I have a 97 with 58,000 miles and it scares the $h1t out of me to think what going to happen if I get CW. I'm not rich so if it happens if going to have to grab my ankles and use the plastic and worry about it later.... hope everything works out

the car is just going to sit until i can get money to get it fixed, but im just going to do it right
6 bolt block with wiseco 9:1 pistons and eagle rods, maybe a 2.4l crank if i can find one and make a stroker out of it (just the crank from the 4g64 and have it give me 2.35l)

but anyways my car will probably have a new engine in sometime next summer
:(

I just recently finished my swap last month. They so called DSM expert who did it jacked it the hell up. The manifold has more gunk in it the god knows, he broke an exhuast manifold stud, stripped another, my oil pressure gauge doesn't work, he for got to put gear oil back in my tranny, put a huge scratch on the pass. rear fender. Worst of all, I got the damn RM code. My goal now is to find a shop somewhere in South Florida that can square my shit away. i.e. headgasket, valve seals, degunk the head and intake mani really quick and for a reasonable price. My advice to you is when you indeed go 6-bolt make every attempt to find someone with the right qualifications and that you know who will do an excellent job. Also you might consider a DSMLink.

How hard of a left? I am wondering because i am getting a loud tick on the drivers side. Could the tick be something else? If it is crankwalk would the ticking only happen when the clutch is depressed? Last, When you rev it up would it start ticking faster? I am in the middle of a search now but i dont want to make like three posts if i dont find the answers.

Thanks

Dan D.

I didn't say i had all of those symptoms. Were all of the answers to my quesions yes? Does it tick when the clutch isnt depressed?

Yes it would tick faster when you accelerate. That's because the reluctor or trigger plate as some call it is hitting the CAS as the crank it rotating. Yes it would tick when the clutch is depressed even slightly that's because the pressure plate is causing the crank to move and therefore causing the trigger plate to contact the CAS. Yes it could tick without depressing the clutch. And yes it could be something else but the chances of it being something else are infintely slim.

my car had exactly those same symptoms the only difrence is that the car will die unless i gave it some gas, and also the boost gauge was all the way up even if the rmps were low,
about 20 miles later the car totally die and it wouldnt start, i was just another victim of CW, the engines on these cars suck.
my car had 124,000 miles so i guess it wasnt that bad.
i just wish that my eclipse was as reliable as my honda with 230,000 miles

where did u get ur swap dine b/c im lookin for a place in south florida to do the same and i wouldnt want to go to this place ur describin

The person I went to I was reffered to by many people. His name is Darren. Even a wiseman in the forum told me that he had done it before and that he knew what he was doing. I was thinking about going to WrightTouch and i know now that I should've. I mean yeah he did the swap but with no attention to detail what so ever. Avoid him at all cost.

I would also recommend Wrightouch Automotive. It's in Davie. All I've had done there so far is my EGT gauge install, but Steve really seems to know what he's doing. And they are primarily a DSM and Toyota shop, so they have lots of experience with our cars. Their sister company, Wrightouch Racing, has what some call the fastest FWD DSM-- I believe it's in the 9s now.
