I've never wrapped anything with heat wrap and I just got my FP Mani that I want to wrap. I want to see how everyone is wrapping theirs and how and where to start.

What about a coated manifold. I just got a FP manifold as well and plan on coating it.

It is installed, but I bought the car pretty much non running so I don't have anything to compare it too. It definitely isn't as hot as my friends 2G GSX. I am happy with it, it is a very nice manifold.

$80 IIRC, very reasonable IMO. TCC has also powdercoated 3 valve covers, they do top notch work.

I would think wrapping it would help with ambient engine bay temps, am I correct? But in return would trap the heat inside the manifold, possibly cause cracking? Let me know on this one, as I want to get it coated or wrapped.

What keeps the heat in more wrap or heat? I really want to wrap it because I have hear that they are not ass hot to the touch a's the coated manis. My evoIII mani is coated but gets extremely hot.

With my other heat wrapped header I can tap it briefly right after running. You can't do that with bare metal. So yes wrapping it keeps alot of heat trapped inside. The other side to that is the hotter air is the faser it moves, so your exhaust gases exit quicker. And warping and possible cracking is when you unintentionally overwrap a section. The idea is to have it evened out, if it's overwrapped then that particular spot will get hotter then the rest leading to damage.

I just cut a slit for the bolts to go through.Works fine hasn't frayed or unravlled.

I would personally never wrap such a beautiful manifold. I just picked one up for my daily driver and will most likely get it coated if I do anything with it. Heat wrap is a waste of money IMO and looks like garbage.

I guess. It honestly is a personal opinion. I'd like to see a true before/after dyno test to see if there is actually a difference. I'd rather spend the money that I would have spent on the wrap towards coating it or another power adder, etc..I see it as more weight and a bigger pain to install/un-install.

I've gone 9.7's on a jet coated OEM exhaust manifold. I don't think wrapping it would make it any faster.

I already have a ceramic coated mani and I'm not impressed with it that's why I'm curious to go with a wrapped mani route. I don't care for the appearance of it being wrapped either as I will probably have a shied fabbed up just to retain the semi-sleeper look.

Do keep in mind that not all ceramic coatings perform the same way.

Yea I know what you mean because I had to get it done twice and even then it still started to peel up. Should have looked for someone else.

What I want is to lower the temperature a lot more than the ceramic coated mani did. Now having a FP mani I've heard that they run hotter that's another reason I'm exploring the heat wrap.

If the coating doesn't work for you on your own, you can always coat, wrap, and heat shield it. Then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Fair enough.

I also have the big ass vent right above my manifold on my EVO so heat dissipates quickly with the coated manifold.

On my 1st gen underhood temps can get pretty crazy sometimes.

That is the idea of wrapping, to keep bay temps down. However, it does keep the mani hotter increasing the possibility of cracking, but come on we are talking about a CAST FP manifold. I don't think there have been any cases of them breaking because of excessive heat. Tubular manifolds, on the other hand, would be more prone to break.

+1... If you don't like the wrap look, you could always get one of the JMFab exhaust manifold heat shields, those are slick.

To the OP... I just hi-temp coated it black and it looked good for a while, but will be wrapping soon.

I was thinking of getting it coated, then wraped, then have a heat shield on top of it to clean things up a bit. The wrap doesn't look all that great so a good heat shield should be a good finishing touch. That would keep the exhaust gases moving pretty quick.

You can wrap them in a way to still look good (IMO), you just have to take your time and plan things out. It also helps to wet the wrap to loosen it up a bit which allows you to pull it tighter.
