Dark Performance T4 Turbo Manilfold (DSM) - Modern Automotive Performance

Has anyone bought and used this manifold? I know MAP likes to have this thing on sale and it looks like a lot of people are interested in it but I haven't really seen any body with results or reviews about it. I just picked up a 6 blade hx40 with the divided T4 housing and would love to match it to this manifold. Any thoughts?

it's a flawed design. only way for this manifold to work properly and take advantage of the twin-scroll is to separate the exhaust pulses until wastegate opening. the manifold in it's current design will cause turbulence and null any benefits.

i would only purchase it if you were willing to do some minor modifications... like so,

Im not so much worried about the twin scroll aspect. I basically want to know how it holds up as far as cracking and warping goes. Ill take the couple hundered RPM loss in spool time.

What attracts me to this manifold is the fact that it is modeled after a proven manifold, 1 year warranty, and obviously price.

$400 for an undivided T4 eh? Sounds like you want it regardless. I'd go with an eBay deal and weld braces in.

Im open to all options, its just that I like to buy from vendors and I don't think MAP would sell inferior products. But the fact that I can't find much info on it as far as feedback goes, makes me....i wouldnt say skeptical....but maybe a little cautious.

^yes.. keep that money in the USA!!!
Help circulate money here for the help of our economy!!

I was once thinking of getting this one but never did.. i planning on just getting the PF cast mani that looks stock since im not planning on going bigger than a e16g!

I just got mine in the mail yesterday. I must say its rather nice looking compared to the ebay stuff. Pipes are twice the size and quality is twice as good. I like that it has a one yr warrenty against cracks. I really dont think its design will affect spool that much. The exhaust gasses are still forced straight down.

Yours is the ONLY review I could find about this manifold. Do you still use it? Can you give any more opinions about it? There is this one and there is the PR Budget manifold too.

Punishment Racing your parts source for the Mitsubishi Evo & Eclipse, Eagle Talon and Laser

I have found very little info on both manifolds. I don't think either companies would risk botching their name and sell such inferior products. If they sell them, why would I look elsewhere just because its a cheaper option?

That manifold is not divided, and I'm guessing the collector is actually a T3 sized with bolt holes drilled for a T4 turbo. There are a couple other design differences as well.

I still use the manifold, but my car didn't exactly have a lot of run time since I put it together with that manifold (transmission issues). I did notice that I got some very slight boost creep in the upper RPM range, something on the order of 1-2 psi. I have yet to isolate this to the manifold, but that is my guess for now.

It's important to reiterate that when I got mine I had to get both flanges decked and a missing weld filled, which added on to the overall cost. I don't know how the new batches are, but hopefully their QC is better.

I am looking into the DP t4 manifold too and have talked to MAP alot. They say they have that manifold on a few shop cars and have had no problems with them cracking. They have them on high hp cars and they say the manifold performs very well on those cars. I am going to be buying mine in a month or so, and know that MAP wouldn't sell a crappy manifold to hurt their reputation.

I read that in your review, but the way I see it....if they send me one that does not allow me to bolt it right up, I will just send it right back.

Just ordered a new Cometic Exhaust manifold gasket, the Dark Performance manifold, and a T4 gasket. I had to get the 38mm adapter with the 44mm v band clamp as well. As soon as my stuff gets here Ill post some pics and what not.

I bought the DP t4 Manifold and when i got it my overall thought was that it looked great. So i went ahead and installed it while i was doing my motor build. After finally getting the car running about 100kms it sounded like i had an exhaust leak but i couldnt seem to figure it out. turns out i had a crack in my new manifold. So i drove the car for lil because it would piss me off to have to park my car again after it being down for a year.

So i called up Maperformance and i told them what was up and they sent me a return form and said to send it back so i did. They checked it and said that they cant repair it so they are going to send me a new one. They also said they had never heard of one cracking before. The only down side to this whole think was that they wouldnt cover the shipping of the faulty product and because i live in Canada i had to pay another $100us for shipping. ohh yeah Also i dont know if this is a common problem or because i am running a 4g64, but i had to cut out 1 of my hood braces to fit the manifold because it was a lil bit tall.
But overall the experience with Maperformance was great.

So i got in ceramic coated this time and i will install it again soon and see what happens this time.

looks like it fits in there nice though (minus the hood thing). Arent the 4g64's a bit taller though?

My manifold came in today. Overall looks good. Gonna have to take a dremel to the exhaust ports as they are notched or something, they aren't ovular(is that a word?) in some spots. Here are some pics.

If you had to dremel this piece wouldn't void the warrenty?
