Ok guys, Im getting ready to put in my egt probe. I knew that you could do this while idling and it will blow the chips out your exhaust but my problem is, i have a cat. Would i still be able to do it while idling or will i have to pull the exhaust manifold?? If i do have to pull the exhaust manifold, what all is involved??

It doesn't matter that you have a cat.

If you want to pull the whole manifold off, Just make sure you have replacement gaskets and alot of penetrating lubricant so you don't break any bolts off in the head.

it will blow the chips out the hole you are drilling at you, not down the tube. if you are worried, have someone hold the engine at 4k or so while you drill it.

definately take the mani. off. i wish i knew this before i did mine.

What happened when you did yours?? I need to know exactly what i should do pretty soon, leaning towards taking the manifold off. I'm gonna do it later today.

Drill the hole with the engine at idle. Start with a small bit, and work your way up. With the initial bit, stop right before you are going to push through, and blow the metal out of the hole, and then finish the hole. Then move on to the next bit, and so on, until you have the right size for the probe. Just make sure you go real slow as you do it, so you can blow the chips out. They will come shooting back at you. Also remember, the air that is coming out of the exhaust is around 800 degrees.. Be careful.

I did my EGT gauge last weekend.

Ok, hole was easy as hell to drill and I have the tap, but the damn tap wrench that i bought wont fit the tap. What else could I use to turn the tap with while pushing down??

i've always just used a crescent wrench. just make sure you have steady hands and can screw in something straight.
