Well the beast I have just got slain by the killer virus crankwalk. I replaced the crank position sensor and you could hear the metal sensing plate colliding with the sensor itself. Although when I depress the clutch ever so slightly, to noise vanishes. So that is how I'm going to drive it until it happens again. Then I have plans for it. For those of you who are wondering if I have an ACT 2600, the answer is yes. Not sure what route I will take in the near future but let's just hope that this sensor keeps intact for a little while longer.

It is actually. I have no lifter tick and I know for a fact that it is the sensor plate because when I first started the car yesterday I heard it. So I kept it in the shop and tore it down earlier today to verify my hypothesis. So what i did was place two small washers to extend the sensor itself out a little. It worked when we started it so I proceded to put everything back together. When I was done I fired my car up and the sound made itself known.

crankwalk isn't a virus, viruses only affect something once :p

sorry, just had to bring in the biology class commentary... :D

That sux dude, sorry to hear that. Did you measure to see how much play is in the crank?

Yeah well it does suck but remember I am still driving a crankwalked vehicle so I have time to think over my options. I am now seriously considering a 6-bolt swap with 2nd. Gen. pistons but I really can't have down time of having to machine the block and all that good stuff. I have a 7-bolt block from a 1998 that I am thinking about utilizing. If anyone whats to sell a 6-bolt with all the goodies for a fair price then by all means post it. I have time to think but I really need to get the ball rolling on what to do with the injured beast. I'm hoping NosLaser down there in Miami has everything I need to do a swap and I could ride down there and swap. Any questions just shot 'em at me and I'll reply.

There's a guy in Ft. Lauderdale name Darren, Thats where "Ricardo" car is right now redoing the block and the head. can PM "Ricardo" for a # directions ect. I dont know it.
looks he only works on DSMs......
thats the shop

You can also try Wrightouch Automotive in Davie. They do lots of DSM work and also have an Eclipse full-drag car (actually Wrightouch Racing, a sister company kinda thing, I think) that's run 9s.

I just contacted Wright Touch and they are now going to locate a 6-bolt for me. If everything goes well I am going to seriously check it out, talk pricing and hopefully go ahead and do the conversion. For all you guys that hear a ticking noise when you press the clutch, that is the sensor plate slowly eating away at the CAS. Sorry but it's the truth.

Darren at Speed Engineering is a close personal friend of mine. I can contact him regarding a 6 bolt swap if you would like. Will prolly cost less than Wrighttouch, and he's a bit closer to you. Let me know.

Regards,

By all means contact him and let him know. The only problem that I have is getting a 6-bolt. If he has people he deals with the tell him to do some calculations and then have him contact me. Cell phone number is 561-707-4053. My name is Chris.

I have his personal line...call him here:

954 565 5434.

I just got off the phone with him so he knows the deal. Just give him a buzz and mention my name when you call.

Regards,

Well I contacted Darren and things appear to be going in a good direction for me. He said his engine supplier will have an engine around the beginning of next week. I'll take a stroll down to Miami and check it out. If I like it I'll purchase it and take it to Darren and start the swap. Let's hope I can scrape up the funds!

I actually met Darren today at his shop-- he seems like a good guy. Good luck with the swap! Maybe you can stop by the next SoFla DSM meet this month even though your car won't up and running by then. It's this Sunday evening at 8ish at the Tower Shops in Davie. It'll be quite a drive for you, but consider coming down if you can.

Well I am in the National Guard and I have drill on that day. If we don't pull any overnighters I'll consider coming down. I hope my car will be done by then. I have the funds to get it done. Darren is just backed up with work. I hope that motor I am supposed to go check out has a flywheel.

Well first sucks to hear about crankwalk Chris, but I'm sure Darren will take care of it.

My car sits in the shop right now and as cucumber said, it'll come back better, especially if you're putting a 6bolt block.

It's when I hear stories like this that makes me happy to have a pos auto tranny :D

Well good luck man, I will probably see you at the shop.
