HKS A/F Knock Amp

That think looks cool. I was looking at the engne list too and not many motors will work with this thing. RB and SR (nissan skyline and sylvia) and 4G63... Anybody else have any info on what exactly this thing does?

Its pretty new, I first saw it in the march issue of turbo&high-tech performance magazine the hks site has very little info available also. I like the idea of real time knock and 02 voltage on the fly for the price of what some pay for electronic boost controllers. the logger is a great playback device, and this should add some degree of real time tuning.

If it doesnt use a different 02 sensor how can it be a wideband  When I threw that web page into babble fish the crappy translation makes it seem like this needs to be used in conjunction with an F-CON V Pro. In the case of my car it made more sense to me to use a pocket logger AND a wideband kit. Trust me when you get one you will be everyone’s best friend.

It appears that a o2 sensor is included with the unit. If its a wide band o2 or not I have no idea. I agree a wide band kit and logger will get the job done, the hks meter just looks. and has some nice features.

I still want the knockbox. Of course it won't have HKS looks, but for the price, it will be hard to beat for on-the-fly tuning, like this.

agreed the knock box is a great addition to the logger for im sure a great price (no price listed on the site) however a wide band (if its truly) a wide band with some of the cool hks features like peak hold audible warning illuminated display..ect.ect is worth the cost. the know box is wired in to the stock o2 so its still no more accurate than a blinking light meter. if 595 is not in the budget, your suggestion along with rdrtk's would work for 90% of us.

Pricing is there at $195, or that's what he says retail will be around. Then you can get a wideband option to slide in there later, and with the wideband display, and the sensor, you'll have the wideband reader on the knockbox, too (And I doubt it will make up the $300 difference, since you can build a DIY wideband reader for about $200 or so). Anyway, just an option :D

If anyone ever wanted a webpage translator, I use the one at www.altavista.com and then tools, and finally hit translate You enter the web page and you can convert Japanese to English. The translations are often sketchy, but you can get the jist of what they're trying to say, most of the time. I tried the HKS link and I it's got a pretty bad translation.

The HKS A/F Knock Amp with its built-in digital display and face mounted controls is deal for high performance engine tuning. This wide band Air/Fuel monitoring device offers visual and audible warnings for precision tuning.

Wow, that's amazing...why didn't you just quote the first post?

So has anyone heard anymore about this yet? I am going to be purchasing a wideband real soon and its either this unit or the 2.0 Techedge which is around $375 if they don't change the price plus the cost of the O2 sensor.

It's not out in the US yet, but should be very soon.

It is supposed to have a sensor voltage output so hopefully it's a 0-5V max and it will be easy to input into AEM or dsmlink for logging.

It is also supposed to have a headphone jack where you can listen to the knock sensor and listen for knock yourself. (note you can build something like this yourself) I'm thinking HKS unit probably process the knock signal like the ECU does to convert it to some kind of display on the screen.

It does not come with a O2 sensor (haha you really expect HKS to include it for $600?) but it can use the same NTK sensor as the TE kit.

i have been told by venders that will carry this product. the the price without the o2 sensor is 450, 595 with the o2.

The picture does show the sensor but the text says it is not included, at least not in Asia.

But for the US release it could be different. Maybe $595 with the sensor is true, we'll just have to wait.

(I've already got the sensor for the TE kit :) )

some additional information i came across

This unit you are looking at is a true wideband controller. It uses the NTK UEGO for the sensor. The unit doesn't come with it. It will be an additional purchase. I'm not so sure if it comes with the cable that links to sensor to the unit but it probably does.

The main controll unit can be concealed somewhere out of harms way. It has cables that would go to your knock sensor and to the wideband O2. It also has a cable that goes to the display unit.

The display unit has a cable that resembles a telephone cable. This unit looks very much like the EVC V boost controller display. Here you can see the (digital) A/F ratio along with an analog display.

The main unit also has a earphone jack that enables you to listen for knock at any time.

The main unit also has a 0-5V Lambda output to hook upto any standalone engine management system and datalog for fuel table adjustment. The A/F scale for this is output is also adjustable thru the display.

So this will read knock even with a standalone ecu? I just have to connect knock sensor to it?

OK i just got off the phone with hks the sensor is sold separately and they want $700 for just the sensor.

But will this damn thing read knock as a standalone? For 495 it's cheaper than Safeguard and less wiring to mess with.

700 just for the sensor. OMG

I'll take an AEM then thank you very much.
