so my car started to overheat this morning and yes i searched. My main question is if the car was actually overheating would my egt temps be higher then norm.? also wouldnt the resevoir tank be bubbling as well. when i checked the car under hood didnt seem to be overly hot no steam coming from the tank but the temps went so far up it was amazing.meanwhile i drove home last night with no probs. im gonna take the tstat out before going home i dunno just worried.thanks in advance

Yeah go ahead and try that first. If the car is warmed up with an air bubble in the head and continues to get hotter with that air in there, then the coolant will just vaporize until you have steam everywhere.
Have you turned the heater on and pumped the radiator hoses? Can you see coolant flowing when your warming up the car with the radiator cap off?

I'd just flush the radiator and add more water than normal. This time, make sure there are no bubbles in the system. See if the themo is stuck closed.

well i opened up the waterneck and whaddya know theres no tstat? i guess the shop who rebuilt my engine didnt think i needed one. hmm the fans came on, although i was questioning the speed of hte fans didnt look tooo too fast. drove the car home the coolant was bubbling out of the reserve tank. i dont think i drove more then 4 min at max temp so im crossing my fingers that the head aint warped. so fans work no stat what could it be now?

Drain the coolant out of your car and leave the draincock open on the radiator. Then take a hose and put it in the radiator opening. Start your car and leave the water running. I've found that flushing the system this way helps (as well as that prestone cleaning stuff in the small yellow bottle) helps a lot with the cooling system, especially when it's old stock stuff. Once you're done flushing it, go to the autostore and get a thermostat. Many have opinions on it, but I don't like the idea of having no tstat, it's really just a bandaid to a bigger problem. Once you get the new tstat in, try 80% water and 20% coolant, leave the rad cap off and let it warm up until the water doesn't let air bubbles out anymore. Close the cap and go for a spin.

Sounds like a dying temp sender, if your "overheating" was just an indication on the gauge.
