Richmond Hill,
Is it possible to get a 1G Dsm up around 500+ hp? Possibly by swapping engines or something? Is it possible? What's involved?

Anything is possible. To get that 500hp to the wheels, you would need more than engine swaps. Bigger turbo and all the supporting mods and building your bottom end big time. Check out the Upgrade Path on this site.

Yes it is definately possible.
You will need to upgrade almost everything, things start to break.
A good turbo to get you there is the FP Red, but of course you can't just slap on a turbo and expect 500hp, you need supporting mods.

As a matter of fact, the engine would be one of the last things that you will need to swap. After seeing many rebuild "race motors" go bad, I am convinced that a 100k factory motor is better than your typical rebuild by a random local machine shop.

I have seen some really good V8 machine shops really screw up these motor.

So, far I am pushing around 400-440hp at the wheels (just over 500 at the crank) on a stock bottom end with 100k miles on it!

I agree with Leon

A stock 6 bolt bottom end will hold close to 500 hp if it's tuned well. It should be the last thing you worry about. If you actually get near 500hp, you will lose a tranny/rear/xcase along the way there.

To make 500hp honestly can be done with "bolt-on" upgrades.

Im in the same boat as leon..posting roughly 123-124mph rougly same hp. I have a built bottom end, but the stock head/intake manifold/cams/TB. This proves that you can make the power without digging into the motor.
