Is there a way to remove the 2g exhaust manifold without having to go through all of the trouble of removing the turbo? Thanks!!

Yes. support the turbo and just pull all the bolts off.

I was just concerned because it just looks so tight between the inner runners. I had it ported when I installed my Big28 a year ago but I had removed it without the turbo on, so therefore it was an easier job to remove at the time. Now... I'm just wanting to put a new gasket on. Is there any special tools that I might want to consider this time around? Thanks for the info!

No special tools needed.

You can practically pull a whole DSM apart with a 10mm,12mm, and 14mm sockets.

haha
more like a 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, breaker bar, and a hammer.
:)
But yeah you should be able to get it out without removing the turbo.

The turbo is/should be supported without the need of you supporting it. Its still bolted up to the downpipe of the o2. And the Downpipe has brackets which bolt onto the block, so i wouldnt see a problem. On the top nuts get a 12mm socket and an extension and a ratchet and take those off. For the bottom ones get a 12mm wrench and put a back up wrench on it and give it hell. If my memory serves me right the bottom right and left ones (well at least mine were 14mm) then take off the 14mm studs off the exhaust housing that bolts up the turbo with a 6 point 14mm to get a good bite on them. USE PB BLASTER OR WD-40 cuase they break/snap easy...hope that helps.

I found that a universial joint really helped removing/installing the lower bolts so you could come at them from an angle. Think about replacing the studs while you at it. The one's that don't break when your removing the manifold often break when your torquing back on.

If you have an O2 eliminator downpipe this is no longer true. At least with mine (RNR). The only thing holding up my downpipe/O2 sensor housing is the turbo and the exhaust hangers on the other end.

Thanks guys I really feel confident enough now to go through with it. I will definately use some PB blaster, that stuff worked awesome the last time I went through this. Thanks again!!!
