I was seriously contemplating the v-band idea as well. Did you find them cheap somewhere?

Did you TIG it?

You tryin to be a dick? I was gonna ask if you used filler or not. Obviously I'm not a plumber... Just askin.

Still not gonna tell us where you found the v-bands?

Why are you acting like such a dickbag to members? Some guys don't know very much about welding in general so why give them a hard time about it?

The exhaust looks decent though, any reason for using 409 over 304?

But 304 has better corrosion resistance than 409. Fracturing? There shouldn't be much force on the exhaust, and whatever there is, it is taken up by the flex section and the rubber hangers.

I applaud your creativeness and ability to do it all on your own but i really don't see the reason for going with 409 for an exhaust. Cost much more than a simple 304 would have been.

Either way it looks good and the v-bands rock. we do the same on our custom exhausts.

Nice exhaust. I myself would not have used a mitered bend, thats the only thing I'm not digging from an aesthetic point. Everything else looks kickass though:thumb:

Actually 304 is much more expensive. 304 is 8% nickel. Tube mill surcharges for 304 are spiking due to nickel being at record high prices now.
Nickel modified 409 (adding only.8%nickel) would actually be superior for our application; it's much stronger at high temerature than either 409 or 304 .

I see Andy's exhaust as the begining of a trend as 304SS becomes increasingly more expensive.

304 is too brittle and susceptible to fracturing then 409.
Whoever told you this had things mixed up.
In the annealed state, which is the way all of these tubes are shipped, 304 has a percentage of elongation of 30 while 409 is only 20. 409 is much less ductile and has a higher rockwell than 304. 304 is much easier to bend and form than 409.

409 is 1/2 the price of 304. IDK who you get your metal from, but you're getting ripped off.
