2G AWD fuel pump assmebly questions

So, I'm in the process of doing an AWD swap and I'm on the fuel tank right now. I'm re-doing the fuel pump assemble with all AN stuff but I have a couple questions about it first.

In the first picture, I'm curious to know the purpose of the two lines marked by the red arrows. Where do they run and what do they do?

Also, what is the piece circled in green? I removed it (second pic) and it doesn't really look like it serves much of a purpose....

Can you get some pics from the top? One line is the fuel return line and the other is the suction line from the other side of the tank.

The bottom line in the picture is the return line. Upper is the suction hose coming from the other hump of the tank.

The plastic thingy connects the two and lets the return flow draw fuel from the other hump acting as a siphon.
