So I'm re-doing my head gasket because I think it's blown. I am at the point where the cylinder head should be able to be lifted off the block. However, it seems to be stuck on the block completely. I'm pretty sure this is normal since it's probably melded with the head gasket a little bit, but any suggestions for getting the head loose?

yes check everything again, it shouldnt be really stuck, if u lift on the manifold pretty hard it should come off. I had the same problem was the intake manifold bracket i forgot to unbolt. if u have a rubber mallet or hammer and a block of wood, try hittin git a few times to get er loose. if its supremely stuck, you just missed something. check every possible area of the engine for bolts and brackets.

All the headbolts are out. The manifold bracket is out. I'm going to try hitting it tomorrow with a rubber mallet.

rubber mallet is your friend.

There are also two dowels that are holding the cylinder head to the block (for alignment purposes).

I have seen them difficult to pull before, but a mallet is all you need (be sure to hammer up, and not at a direction which you are going to damage those dowels).
