Is the GReddy v-spec fmic the same thing as the big GReddy fmic, or are they two different fmic's all together? Also, I have a 97 gst and was wondering, do you have to cut anything on the bumper at all for either one of these fmic's to fit? If so, where? Thanks! Anthony

To my knowledge you are correct. Greddy has the R-Spec and V-spec code named 'Little Greddy' and 'Big Greddy'.

You will need to cut the bumper to make almost any FMIC fit.. Don't get a greddy. Look into a better core.. Look into a griffin or a spearco. They Greddy look good but performance wise isn't as good. Just my .02 cents.

The reason I was wondering about the cutting part, is on RRE's site they say that the big greddy fmic will fit on the 95 and 96 models but you will lose the fog lights, and some bumper reinforcement will need to be trimmed. I didn't recall them saying that the 97 and 99 model bumper's will need to be trimmed. But it does say the fog lights will remain on the 97 and 99 models.

thats because if you look at the front of a 97-99, the opening in the front is a different shape and the foglights in a different position. You would probably still have to cut part of the bumper reinforcement tho.
*Note- I dont have a FMIC or a 2g so someone could prove me wrong.

Well I have a 2g but it's a 95 and I just removed the bumper completley.

Later,
Are you saying that you just left out the inner bumper reinforcement totally when you reinstalled the bumper cover?

Yep. I figured a impact of any more the 5-10mph would crush the bumper and the IC and engine anyway. I saved about 20lbs and a bunch of grief.

That's cool man. I think I will probably do the same as you, that 20lbs is a great weight savings, and hell your still more protected with out that bumper reinforcement than you would be if you were on a crotch rocket and crashed. Peace!!

What kind of cutting tool did you use for the trimming larryd? Thanks!!

well... i used a dremel for the most part but in the end I was using anything I could get my hands on that would cut it.. finally I used the dremel took off a big chunk of the bumper and went over the whole bottom lip with a power sander and I was suprised it flattened it out nicely :)

I have the greddy front mount it took me a while but the fog lights are still there. If i remember correctly i had to carefully manuver them into place. Don't inhale the fumes from the dremel tool the cutting, burning of the plastics, unless your trying to get a nasty buzz.

Let me get this perfectly straight in my head one last time and I will leave you guys alone. Question... If I decide to leave the bumper reinforcement out of the bumper cover, I will then not have to worry about trimming any part of the bumper, am I correct in thinking this way? Thanks for the info!!

ok larryd so you removed the bumper reinforcement anyways (like MuttedTSiAWD did, correct) and you STILL had a lot of cutting to do of the plastic front clip?? i think what speedy wants to know is if there's a way to install a huge FMIC without cutting anything :)

I had a Griffin core (24x10.5x2.75) and we just made a large upside down U in the bumper with a sawsall (sp?). IMO the 2g bumper is too light to remove, if you get bumped in the parking lot, you FMIC will take the hit. AND if your FMIC is punctured you WILL BE stranded (can you say large boost leak). It would be like trying to drive with a IC pipe off.

So your saying that I should leave the reinforcement in.

the reinforcement on the 2gs is plastic & really easy to trim for fitment. The reinforcment helps support the outer facia... so I would try to at least keep the top part of it to help maintain the shape of the facia.
